So today I was skiing Spirit Mtn. in Minnesota; it was an awesome day with great conditions and I couldn't have asked for a better setup. I was sending it off of some of the bigger jumps when I under-rotated a safety 5 and tweaked my knee. It wasn't anything bad- just a stretched tendon that I probably won't even feel tomorrow. But it made me think, what if it would have been worse? What I would have gotten hurt again? Would it have even been worth it?
I'm going on 22 and have been skiing seriously for a few years now but I keep on thinking 'is it worth it?'. I know for a fact I will never go pro, never make it in any big-name edits or movies, or most likely ever be 'spansered'. So here's my question: What's your ambition? When you get to a point where you need to risk your body to progress, what keeps you going? In the long run, is it worth the injuries that are almost bound to happen? or do you not even think about it?
I guess what I'm saying is, how do you guys weigh the risk of heavy tricks as an amateur? And in your head, are the consequences of bailing worth the glory of landing a new trick?
I'm drunk and this is a thought.
