Volant Spatulas

So I got them and i've skied them. If you're not familiar, the spatulas measure 120-125-115, and have decamber. With the recent 6 foot dump in tahoe I had the perfect chance to test them out. They are awesome in the pow. I was killing everyone down the mountain. My brother who is 7 years my senior and 7 years more experienced couldn't keep up with me on these things. The turns feel awesome, and you can let them loose, like snowboarders do. So floaty, and really confident in the trees. You can charge because you know you can make any turn. No good on groomers, but managable, and definetly not a problem when i'm spending 99% of my day in fresh. Well done Shane

what happens when all the pow gets tracked out, you then have a really expensive pair of water skis, you shouldve got prohphets

The pow never gets tracked out when you know where to find it. They're pretty good in chopped powder cause you just float. And my slalom ski was more than my discounted spats.

i still dont get how they exactly work, if you were carving wouldnt only the waist touch the snow? so wouldnt it theoretically be better to ski with skis without a negative side cut, or even a straight ski?

in powder they work like waterskis or a surfboard, the whole ski touches the snow, but the waist is wide for float. Plus with a regular sidecut the tips hook occasionally, this is doens't happen on the spats. They have so much float that in the middle of a pow run you can throw them to switch. Skiing powder backwards isn't that fun, but making those turns is pretty interesting. The reverse sidecut isn't that extreme, so on packed runs you can still carve because the waist just digs in and you ride the tails like a straight ski.

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

I just got mine mounted up and can't wait to try em. Ive been away for christmas break but I can't wait to get back to Utah cuz its been dumpin! Should be good spatula conditions!

Atlanta ski, you once again prove to us that you yourself and a gaper tourist at heart. Spatulas are sick, when the snow gets cut up it skis it better than any other ski, because the tip doesn't get snagged it just slices through the shit.

ouch, that hurts... I've seen some guys ski them and in powder they killed it, but back on the groomed stuff it was like watching them devolve... Methinks they are an extremely good powder ski, but a solely powder ski... I need a bit more of multi purposeness for my skis.. But they are sweetness incarnate in the fat stuff...

Of course they're ugly... who gives a shit? Hell, I think this year's moships are ugly as sin, but they're still awesome, awesome skis. And who's talking about the graphics when they're covered in pow? Good call on the skis... if you get that much powder, it's a good investment, I suppose. I considered getting a pair when shopping for fat skis, but I didn't want to take a risk on something so unconventional, no matter how many good reviews they've gotten.

I just got my JP vs. Julien's mounted and I rode them on Saturday at Snowbird. There was about 2 feet of fresh, so they were insane. I will post a better review on them, once I ski them on some different types of terrain.
