my heart stoppped. No joke, my heart stopped at this moment in the episode. In a mere 60 second time span, my mind went insane. It was looking like Jon was going to get iced by the white-walker and the whole time I'm thinking, "there's no way they kill off Jon Snow, he's too important, there's so much more to get through... wait, he might die. OK, so someone who is a bigger GOT nerd than me explain this to me....why is it that when Snow's Valaryian steel hit's that one white walker, the white walker shatters, but none of the other "dead" fighters shatter when hit with the same sword? he's stabbing/slashing them left and right prior to that fight and none of them shatter....so what the hell is the difference?

I thought it was the same sword as well, but as Jon and the other Crow are running to escape after he has that little face off he turned to the other Crow when they were running and shouted something about dragon glass while looking at the sword, but the other crow pretty much says fuck the dragon glass we're going to die. This makes me think it was a different sword because in the previous season when Samwell Tarly killed the whitewalker with dragonglass, it shattered just like this one did when Jon killed it.

Yeah the sword (Longclaw) is the same - it's the one mormont gave jon

The minions/zombies are called wights, and you'll need fire to completely desroy them, otherwise their body parts will just keep reanimating

It's also important to note that the method/knowledge for forging valyrian steel is said to have been lost long ago, which makes the 6 existing blades that we know about quite valuable. It's only speculation that dragon fire is part of the forging process

Yes, Valyrian steel substitutes for dragonglass. Dragonglass comes from dragons, dragons come from Valyria, Valyrians forged the blades. The whole set up of the series is based off this premise. That's why the collection of books is known as A Song of Ice and Fire. Walkers being the Ice/winter, and Dany being the fire when she decides to finally get herself and her dragons over there.I mean dragons would make short work of that entire army if she trains them.

And I can say this since it's never confirmed in the books either, Benjen Stark is rumored to be Coldhands, a character that in the show hasn't shown up yet, or was cut due to insignificance.
