Im almost 5'8 and my skis are pretty much crapped out and im looking at buying k2 recoils for the end of this year and for next year. should i go for the 174 or 179

174 IMO

Depends what type of skiing you do. Assuming park mainly, I'd say 174.

I live in minnesota so ya but even if i grew to like 5'10 next year would i still be good on the 174

K2 underestimates the length, 174 in fact about ~178.

Yes you would still be fine. I ride about 95% park and 6'2 skiing a 176 pair and a 179 cm pair.
