One week ago I posted the first ski movie by some friends of mine. I think it is really good and professional to be a 'first time'. Also I think it is really enjoyable to watch! You can see some really good tricks and some of them are real bangers, not to talk about the beautiful landscapes of Dolomites. What makes me sad it's that nearly nobody from NS watched it. It got 77 views and just two upvotes and one really appreciated comment. So, I'm here asking why it didn't capture your interest while looking the latest videos uploaded. Because of its name? Because euro productions need big names to be watch? Did you find it boring? Just tell me, any feedback could help my friends to get a better products at the end of this ski season.

I'm at school right now so I can't watch it, but a lot of times a video may seem 'unattractive' due to any factor. I think your problem might have been when you posted it. If you posted it last week, then you probably didn't get a lot of views because One of those days 2 just came out. My theory: You might have posted it while many other people were posting their edits as well. The result was that the edit made its way to the back page without accumulating a whole lot of views. Sorry man, sometimes this kinda thing just happens. It looks professional though.

now I dont know the background or anything + I suck cause I almost always just watch the top rated edits(IF I WATCH ANYTHING AT ALL.)
BUT, as said above. one of those days 2 came out and a lot of banger edits.
And releaseing a 22 minutes long movie as if it was an edit, wont get much attention.
personally I wouldnt watch it because I dont always have 22 minutes to watch a ski movie. I often watch ski edits on my celly on the toilet or just surfing by them on facebook or whatever.

If you want a movie to get noticed, you have to work harder with releasing trailers and edits and stuff to build up some excitement for people to care a about a movie.
I can agree with you that this is a quality movie (tho I just saw the first part without sound, because I have class atm.)
But I will probably not see the movie, simply because I don't care to much about watching edits or movies.

Damn OP, you got shafted hard. This is really impressive for a first venture into making a ski film. Skiing and cinematography were on point!

Hopefully this thread can help revive it. In the mean time, here's an upvote and a virtual high five.

Really good work imo. Timing is everything and you may have hit the wrong time or day when something major overshadowed your work or there wasn't enough hype leading up to the release. Don't be discouraged though hopefully this will get some good exposure.

Threads for after work. Looks like a good flick joystick nailed it with the timing as others mentioned, you have to look at your edits as a marketing tactic, plan out when you're going to promote it and release it. There's an article somewhere about video releases/ music releases and the different seasons of the year/months.

But to me as well the 22min runtime is a little discouraging since I didn't realize it was a movie. I look forward to watching it tonight

super well done video, but sadly just a bit too long. The attention span of people watching ski videos on the internet is quite low, and although the skiing was really good, people wont sit through 20 minutes of something that isnt banger after banger of their favorite pro's. Keep making videos though, you guys have some serious potential

Just watched it. Let me start off by saying that the riding exceeded my expectations. Those park shots had some very unexpected bangers. Secondly, GREAT job with the cinematography. Some of those sights were so majestic. Editing was on point,almost professional level.

My only complaint is that it is a little too long. And you stole the first song from stept. But other than that it was a very good project and deserves a lot more credit.

Marketing bro! If you want it to get viewed like said before make a teaser, throw up some screenshots make a thread prior and it will get noticed. Because personally when I see a 20 min vid by a name I don't know I just assume it's a bunch of gapers.

It definitely deserves a little more respect, the filming, editing and tricks were all sick, it was a little long tho in my opinion.

That was probably one of the better free movies I've watched, sucks it didn't get so much attention but as others have said it was probably because of the time you posted it up. Also there was another euro film called 'perspective' which was released around a month ago (yours was better imo), that might have been another reason there were less views?
I couldn't find a whole lot wrong with, it was really good for a first attempt. Perhaps the segments could be cut shorter, they seemed like they were dragging. Keep it up, hoping to see more stuff from this season now!!

Some nice shots, but having the equipment you had at your disposal it would be hard to not get nice shots.

Personally for me, it lacked personality.

But on paper you've got a nice little piece here, just cut it down and try to not repeat spots over and over. Maybe revisit some of your music choices and add in some more audio bits of you and your friends.

didnt watch the entire thing, but editing was spot on, and a lotta good shots and tricks being thrown down. Cant wait to watch the entire thing. shoulda got more recognition

At this point I'm two minutes in and super impressed, the time it takes to keyframe text and collect that footage is a painstaking amount of work, I have a ton of respect for this piece already. That being said i think that this section is way too long, most people that are going to click on your video know nothing of your abilities/crew, in short, they don't know what to expect. So, at two minutes in they're probably wondering if this is worth there time, and just plain give up. (which is shitty) I think whatever you come out with next will surely do better, I know I will want to see it after watching this. Another reason I can think of that would deter people from watching the whole piece is your music choice. Did you edit to the song well? hell yeah. Did it fit the mood you wanted? Sure. Does your piece out do Stepts movie? Unfortunately no. The problem with using music found in other well known movies is that you automatically allow your viewer to compare yours to there's, and it also shows a lack of creative thinking (maybe you didn't even know you were doing this but to the viewer that is irrelevant). Immediately I knew this song, and knew the feeling it gave me watching ten and two, it took my focus completely away from your piece and directed it to there's. That being said I am stoked to keep watching, I think this deserves a lot of recognition.

Well it is to long. If I see a 20 minute video Im probably not going to watch it. If it's and edit it should be at least 5-8 minutes long. You might as well call yours a short film. But it was good. The intro was too long try and post some screenshots and put it out there before you release it ;)!

I blame all the people who have an attention span of a squirrel,I personally loved the length of the film and especially seeing the beautiful landscape. Definitely deserves more exposure!

Can't say my stuff had any monster success on Newschoolers too but my advice would be to post your movie at the end of the season or just before the next season.

During the middle of the winter tons of short edits are posted and most people are at school/work or skiing so they might not find the time to watch longer movies, but when at the end of the season when they are craving skiing and have more free time an online ski movies marathon becomes interesting.

pretty douchy way to say it, but I agree with the last part, that the shots of the mountains had nothing to do with all of the urban and park that made up the movie. would have loved to see some big mountain ripping. that said, I was supa impressed both with the riding and the movie as a whole

this is absolutely fucking ill holy shit i love it!! its not the video, its the presentation. something must have gone wrong, whether noone knew about it before it dropped (i didnt), or something overshadowed its release (football game or other edits by big names like candide). Im going to spread because it is sick!

I dig it. There's a lot of filler that was well shot, but this is a ski edit, not a documentary on walking around. Everyone is correct relating to One of Those Days 2. Just remember that we can all check out Level 1 bangers all day long and hardly get bored. When exploring new edits, we don't care a whole heck of a lot about randos shooting photography. It's really good shooting, though. My compliments to the chef, just remember that you have to toss out a lot of the stuff you like in order to snag the attention of the NS community. Keep at it!

Try to get your name out there! send it to sites like downdays etc. and try to an article about your movie or something. this is definitely article worthy in my opinion. try to post some edits or something here so people will recognize you!

i only had time to scrub through a little bit, but the beginning, while well done, was sorta boring and, for lack of a kinder word, trite

even the first skiing shot, i think, is just a little 180 out of a window thing. nothing in what i just listed hinted to me that there was some really awesome shit in the rest of the movie (most noteworthy thing i happened to see just clicking through it was that kang 10, holy shit that was sick)

start off hot and let the viewer know it's worth it to keep watching. you have some really sick stuff in there but youre asking a lot of people to trust you on that when they see the movie is 20 minutes and starts slow

IMO the biggest decider of whether i remember a video fondly and rewatch it is if the beginning and end are banger

sick movie. well produced, good talent... nice product.

Your biggest problem is MARKETING. In this day in age you can't just drop a 22min edit and expect it to blow up. You need to tease it first and get some exposure by sharing that with different ski media outlets. I'm sure you can have a banger 2 minute teaser with this footage. Teasers bring hype and hype = profit.

Sure it could use a few edits here and there and trim a few minutes... but it was pretty dope. For your next film just include a touch of pow slaying pillows or cliffs to compliment the heavy metal and park and you can sell this... at least for local premieres. Your crew is very young and loaded with talent. stick it out for a bit and you could go places.

I would recommend for you to start posting photos/ short 20 second teaser clips before the movie drops, in the weeks leading up to the final release. Also, dont call it an edit if it is 20 minutes long as this will deter people, because short movies/documentaries have way more content than a simple edit.

Improvements?
If you want to make a movie, include some stuff other than one ski shot after another. Pure ski shots is good for a 5-10 minute edit, but in a movie some people are going to want more; the movie should tell a story, otherwise it might as well be split up into shorter edits.
