Chest Mount or Helmet Mount

I guess it's really preference. I'm not a great skier but my first season I made a video with helmet cam, and just made another one this season with the chesty. Overall I like the chesty more just because it's so much easier to keep track of, easier to press the buttons and look down to see if it's recording, etc. I think the perspective is a little more dynamic as well, because you end up with arms on either side of the frame instead of at the bottom.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you use the chest mount, make sure you point it down a bit to get your skis in the shot. Since your chest only moves slightly back and forth while skiing, it looks really weird to be moving in a different direction from the fall line when you can't see the skis. This didn't seem to matter as much with a helmet cam because you're looking where you're going.

i had the deepest day of my life at jackson hole last year for a 3 day school ski trip. i thought i had some killer footage of like waist deep pow and when i got home and i watched the vid i was super disapointed cus all the chesty filmed was just bad. helmet cam bro

chestys are awesome, and so are helmet mounts. both get caked with snow if you're skiing deep pow, so you will still kinda have to worry about that. Good thing about the chesty is you can look down for a split second, see its covered, and adjust mid run, so its not like all your shots are ruined when you're skiing pow and the camera gets covered. overall, you cant go wrong with either. Big fan of the chesty, and I got a video on my profile of the chesty if you're curious to see what the angles are like.

For sure, as long as your skis are in the shot it looks great.

The chesty is my go-to when rippin cruddies. Its a great mount

For shot quality, it's helmet for sure.

Reason: Your neck is a great shock absorber. If it wasn't, you'd get dizzy taking your morning jog and have blurred vision when walking up a flight of stairs. Anything mounted on your head (helmet) will be more stable than if it's on other body parts.

Still, I wouldn't rule out a pole mount. You have to use one of your poles in a complete different way than you're used to, but it's pretty easy. I've gotten decent results with it myself and so have others. If ever in doubt, just ask the Ski Boss:

Would go with helmet and pole for variety. Those are my 2 cents.

The chest mount angle is too far down. You get too much knee in the frame regardless of snow depth. The helmet mount is the best.

couple reminders though...
-if you are using a stick-it mount, make sure the mounting surface is clean and dry. Just after sticking, put a bead of superglue on the outside rim of the mount.
-use the goPro labeled "dohickey" rubber insert to reduce shock vibration.
