All that matters is getting the right settings. In my Dunning-Kruger days (I'm currently in the post-DK depression) I'd talk shit on program users, but then I realised that the Olympus Trip 35 I walk everywhere with is essentially program.
Anyway, if you understand what each control does and you've metered correctly then you should have absolutely no problems using any of the camera settings, then you can figure out what you like.
If you still don't know then you need to practice more.
You can't ask the internet to practice for you, go take some fucking photos.
