Why do parents fight in front of kids?

I am in my 20s and still don't see a reason the fight in front of kids. I was thinking about this today when I listened to my divorced parents fighting on the phone today. Growing up they fought and I can think I nearly every one of my friends parents i've seen fight when I was over a their house growing up. Like it's not necessary, save that shit for when you two are alone. Can anyone give insight on this?

my parents never fought in front of us. although I don't think they really fight at all.

I think it depends on what fighting looks like. My parents didn't really fight a ton (never yelling or anything like that), but they definitely had disagreements and worked through them in front of us (sometimes). A big part of that was done intentionally to model what it looks like to work through stuff in a healthy way.

It's definitely not healthy to be fighting (yelling or worse) in front of your kids. I don't think a lot of parents understand the effect it has on their kids. Depending on how bad it is, it can definitely considered emotional abuse.

my girlfriend's parents are getting a divorce, and they honestly fight 24/7. Its really hard for her, and i mean they fight even when i come over, although she says its never as bad if im there. Its honestly just such a shitty situation for everyone involved.

My parents fought in front of me and their parents fought in front of them. I am going to be the first one to realize how horrible that is and not treat my girl/future wife like that. And def not in front of any kids I may have in the future

my parents fought a lot, but ive only seen my mothers face bleed a couple times so its not that severe .

Same here. Though I'm not having kids so the fighting stops there.

I honestly do not plan on having kids either at this point. I am 25 so things may change, but as of now not a chance..

I'm older than you by a wee bit (lol) but I've been saying since I was very very young that I wouldn't have any kids. I don't want to repeat the crap my parents did. My father was amazing though work pulled him away quite a bit. My mother is the spawn of satan and a total bitch to put it lightly. So much so that my brother and I have not spoken to her in years and never will.

hey bud.. long time no talk. It has been awhile since you trolled me! what gives?

I didn't have her do anything. We discussed that shit and did what was best. Like I said then, if we had that kid I would not be in the great place I am now. I didn't love her (not even a little) and I lived 3 hours from her. She came from a poor family. I had tons of debt at the time. I was in the military. I now graduated from college and am a Network Engineer with no debt and about to buy a house. Why am I even explaining this shit to you?

you should try and go skiing once in awhile. It is relaxing and will get you away from the computer...

Quite honestly, its better to just get it out and have kids know what its like when shit goes bad. My parents fight all the time and they always have, they don't love each-other any less (I realize its not the same for all families, mine being quite unique) And them getting stressed out and having a yelling match or whatever is just normal for us.

I want to have kids at some point, im 18 and living with my parents right now, so that doesn't really work but in the future hopefully.
