vandersteezeNeither, get a dual sport
UphillIceA "standard" bike is also a good idea and their making a comeback now. I have a 1979 Yamaha XS 650 that fits into the category.
pat_in_the_hatyou have an xs? nice, i have one too. stocker?
UphillIceIt leans in that direction. The seat was replaced and gives it a bit different look from stock, but all the main stuff (bars, rake of the fork, etc) is pretty stock.
How is yours set up?
vandersteezeNeither, get a dual sport
Diracif you have to ask, you should probably get neither
UphillIceI'd say neither. There are a lot of bikes in between those two extremes that will likely suit you better and end up being more fun.
The dual sport is a good idea. If I were getting a different bike, that's what I'd get.
A "standard" bike is also a good idea and their making a comeback now. I have a 1979 Yamaha XS 650 that fits into the category. It's easy to ride and fun, but if you don't like messing with your bike, I'm not sure I'd get something so old. A Suzuki Bandit, Triumph Scrambler, one of the smaller Ducati Monsters, Honda CB500, Yamaha FZ6...all of these are slightly different takes on a lighter bike with a mostly upright seating position. They'd be comfortable, versatile choices for a first street bike.
Statica 49cc scooter, you don't need no license, no roads, no insurance, take that fucker anywhere you want. Put it in the back seat of your car if it's goin' rain.
