Do you believe there is a God?

Do you believe in God? Do you believe there is one God, or many gods? Or no God at all.. Are we alone on earth?


If there is no God then everything is relative, which means morality is relative. If you don't believe in God then where do you gain your sense of right and wrong? From laws and rules created by the GOVERNMENT?


I want interesting discussion, but preferably no one getting mad and offended. I won't get offended if you won't.

So yeah we credit God with all the good things because we believe he made every good thing, and we believe that human nature and the devil are to blame for the bad things in the world. Not saying this is perfectly and solidly true, just generally what we believe


That's a very weird way to view the world. So humans haven't introduced/invented anything good in your mind? Democracy for example is a human idea you know, and because of it you are allowed to express the narrowminded worldview that you apparently have. But you will probably just say it was divinely inspired right? Well the concept of democracy was first introduced (though not perfected) by the athenian greeks who at the time were not even monoteistic.

The way I see it is that monoteistic religion is inherently totalitarian (to borrow words from Hitchens) and therefore not worthy of my respect. And that's not even mentioning all the harm religion has caused or the lack of evidence.

This thread is supposed to be about the debate over the existence of a higher power, not a fucking pissing contest over who's smarter and dumb because they choose to believe one thing or another.

There are smart religious people. There are smart non religious people. And guess what? yeah the story behind the suffering is odd, but the concept of not giving up a certain food or activity can be healthy for ya for sure. Practicing self- control and learning about your body is beneficial.

Pretty sure it goes back before christianity or something... like, during the winter, you started to run out of food and supplies, so everyone had to start cutting back on resources around this time until shit started to grow again.

...but before they did, they'd have a big ol feast and fuck until daybreak.

Why are there only chimpanzees and homo sapiens today? Why isn't anything in between alive today?

Humans did not evolve from monkeys. Humans are more closely related to modern apes than to monkeys, but we didn't evolve from apes, either. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees. Scientists believe this common ancestor existed
5 to 8 million years ago. Shortly thereafter, the species diverged into two separate lineages. One of these lineages ultimately evolved into gorillas and chimps, and the other evolved into early human ancestors called hominids

Your idea of evolution is a little flawed, it's not like animals just morphed over time and died in entirety as new traits appeared. It's a bit more complicated than that.

Why aren't there dinosaurs around today either? Why aren't other extinct animals around today either, oh that's right survival of the fittest I forgot about that. They all died that's why we have fossils of them.

Well dinosaurs are most likely dead because of some mass extinction event, so that's not related to evolution really.

The point is they're not around today, but we still have fossils of them so we know they existed. I never said dinosaurs have anything to do with evolution, same goes for the other extinct animals comment except for the ones that are extinct that have to do with humans evolving. just because something is not around today doesn't mean it's never existed, so glad I had to waste a post explaining that to you.

Think about something that might seem a little more similar. Are house cats similar to lions? Do you see the similarities? I think for some people it's much easier to see these things with different examples.

What are you talking about, the simplest organisms are dead? it seems you believe we evolved from apes and we didn't (shockingly because you know nothing about science) we share a common ancestor and that common ancestors is extinct.

I'm asking an honest question, (Bored at work for another 50 minutes) is there any thought in your head that religion might be all bullshit and Christianity was developed 2000+ years ago to control the masses? Humans back then were forced into slavery to build things like the pyramids because of the fear of God (just a general example). Do things like paying for penance just a few hundred years ago make you question what you believe? Or the fact that science has helped develop the theory of evolution which is based on real evidence, not some fairy tales? You may not even be religious and I apologize if your not. I just want to hear these things explained from a Christian. Or ignore me, the weekend is almost here, I don't care. :)

Did Jesus really come back from the dead? Was Joseph really not fucking Mary? Were they not married and fucking like wild animals?

I don't believe in god and I think the world would be for the most part better off if religion was never a thing. I believe people should be good for their own sake and for that of those around them, not because they think some guy in the sky is watching over their shoulder all the time. If you choose to be a shithead in life then that's on you.

Humans are unique in that we are aware of our own mortality, and because of that we need to feel like our lives have some sort of meaning. Religion can give that to people while simultaneously providing an explanation for all the unknowns around us. Fine, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not for everyone. It's not for me.

That said, I do think the world is full of wonder and there is more to it than we know. Nature is really amazing sometimes and I like the idea of someday returning to the earth and becoming a part of that beauty, even if it's just in a minuscule way. I like thinking that people eventually become the trees and flowers and everything beautiful around us. That's enough of an "afterlife" for me I guess. And I believe Jesus was a real guy at one point, but I definitely don't think he had special powers or was the son of god or any of that nonsense. He was just a nice guy who managed to impact a lot of people and then met an unfortunate end, and then a bunch of other guys found a way to make a lot of money off the story. Sucks to be him I guess.
