Places (not) to live in SLC?

So, I've been staying with my parents in PC skiing since the end of November, and I've decided I like skiing enough that I'd like to get a place around here. PC is kind of ridiculously priced, so I'm guessing I'll end up somewhere in SLC.
I'm just looking for some general info, are there any good neighborhoods to live in, ghettos to avoid, etc? I work from home so the only real thing that matters to me is that I don't want to drive an hour to go skiing every day... is an area like the eastern edge of cottonwood heights/sandy a good area? Close to the mouth of LCC/snowbird, only like 30-45 minutes from my parents place in PC.
Any thoughts, or other advice?

If you care most about being close to skiing, try to live right near the mouth of LCC, public transportation is on point too so if you don't want to drive up the canyon you definitely don't have to ! Plus the inversion is gnarly down in Salt Lake itself. I plan to move over to one of the mouths once I'm done with school!
