SMITH GOGGLES?

Whats up,

Has anyone had any experience with smith goggles specifically the I/O AND I/OX?

I'm in the market of buying a pair and right now I'm leaning towards the I/OX with a blackout lens


Any feedback is much appreciated!

Pros of io

Looks cool
Great polerized lenses

Cons

Don't feel good on my face
Fog up like nobody's business
Have a spherical lens shape so it fogs easier
Overpriced and there are better options

This lens is ok. For 200 $ it has good lenses that will preform well under certain conditions. It has a bubble shape or spherical shape that fogs up easier. Cylinder shape is better because it doesnt fog but it has more distortion. IMO the squad from smith looks way better and has a cylinder shape and its cheaper. If you want to spend 200$ on goggles get the cornea from poc it's the best goggle currently. hopefully that helps

I've used Smith goggles for about 15 years now. I can't wear spherical lenses because they don't fit my face. I have no vision issues with flat lenses, I personally think that it's marketing BS.

I like my I/OX's. I have a big head and Face. They fit good. And I have skied on rainy days (The worst for fog imho) and they were solid the whole day.

Of course, I got them for my cakeday, soooooo... they are pretty awesome.

Oh, and the lenses switch out super easy. Got the blackout and the rose and they are both awesome.

I/O has always felt weird on my face, but havent tried the I/OX.

Im really stoked on my Squads though.

The smith goggles have amazing peripheral vision compared to other goggles and the lenses are less expensive than Oakley. I have had POC goggles also but the lens coating started to come off 3/4 through the ski season which sucked. I'm not sure if it was a defect but Smith is a good brand and my goggles have held up for almost 2 years now.

All goggles will fog super easily if your always rubbing water and snow off of the inside of the lens. My stormday I/O lenses clear and sensor blue will fog super easily b/c they get wet shredding pow and will eventually need a wipe down, whereas my blackouts are always good to go b/c I almost never have to wipe them down.

Also, I've had really good experiences with Smith's warranty. Ive sent two pair of goggles back because of the foam coming off after 2ish seasons and both times they sent back brand new goggles with 2 lenses, no questions asked.

Okay so first of all if you buy ios/iox for 200$ you are getting ripped the fuck off.
Second, i have the blackout ioxs and i love them the are fairly durable, great lenses for the light, comfortable (if you have an average or above sized face) and you can see everything.
Third fogging up is not an issue for me i previously had a pair of oakelys and they fogged up and ice over all the time, basically kids on ns ( like one i quoted) are extremly stupid and dont read how to not make the googles fog, i bet he didnt ever dry them out, wiped them and the let it sit and more. If you follow smiths easy directions they will hardly ever fog.
Lastly my only complaint is that the lens switching is not as easy as advertised. It takes about 10-15 minutes the first time you do it, but gets much easier with practice.

Overall they are a great google and i would reccomend them, the do work fairley well with my red helmet as well but would work best with smith or poc i know.

Have them. Love them. The blackout lens is pretty specific to sunny days. Maybe consider getting a few lens'

IMO: Best lenses are: RC Polarized, Red Sensor, Photochromatic, Blue Sensor, Green Sol-x. In that order.


I normally bring all my lenses with me, and change them accordingly in the parking lot...

Nice man! Thanks for the pointers! Right now i just got the black out and the red sensor, plan on picking up a pair of clears and green sol-x's soon though!

For one thing smith uses a chemical bath for their lenses instead of a coating like other goggle brands do. So if you wipe the lenses you are not sacrificing the anti fog protection. I love my I/O's and have even dyed them black and the foam has plastic has held up. My straps are a bit stretched out but that comes with use over time.

I've used the i/o before. They worked fine. I honestly don't like any goggle on the market right now. They all fog up easy if you ask me.
