So, heres the deal.

I live in London, England (which sucks for some reasons and is awesome for others)

As some of you, with above average NS'er IQ may know, it doesn't snow here which isn't too great.

So I'm left with three options:
1:SKI GRASS
2: PAY THOUSANDS TO SKI ABROAD ALL THE TIME
3: GO TO A INDOOR SKI CENTRE

I know right, option three seems like the most reasonable one of the three, but theres a slight problem with option 3 which is that the closest indoor ski centre to me is 1h50mins away from me by public transport (now you're probably thinking oh hey why not get your parents to take you in the car it'd be way quicker! And your right! But they don't wanna do that so looks like I'm shit outta luck till i can get my own car.)

Anyways, if i were to take public transport to get there it'd take about 2 hours and around £30 (plus another £20 to ski for two hours when i get there) totalling about £50 and a round trip of 6 hours, in which 2 are spent skiing.

So, i guess my question to you is!


Do you think its worth the £50 and 6 hour round trip in which 2 hours are spent skiing (bearing in mind i would be home at 10pm)?

basically think of it as spending dollars as things cost about the same over here just different currency

Public transport is terrible during rush hour as it is, can't imagine what it'd be like carrying around ski gear on your own as well. Curious as to whether you'd be going to Hemel or Milton Keynes though?

I personally don't think I could do that after having such easy access to skiing in America. OP's struggle is real.

Hemel and MK are alright, but IMO you should save to go ski on real mountains. I haven't been to a fridge yet this (academic) year, and when easter break comes around I'm gonna be in the Alps for at least two weeks. The time you spend out there is 10x as fun and, hour for hour, much cheaper than anything in a fridge. Plus fridge snow sucks balls and no-one can build a jump.

Think about this: All told, it costs you >£75 per trip to a fridge. If you keep it quite cheap, a weeks trip to a major french resort can be done for around £450(pp) including travel, accommodation, food, alcohol (lots of alcohol, I recommend the boxed wine), and the occasional crépe on the mountain. People do it much much much cheaper than that as well. 450/75=6. For the price of 6 trips to ski the shitty snow and the shitty parks you could be in real mountains.

Anyway, it's awesome to get new British NSers. There are a few of us around, you can often catch us in our regional forum. Not much happens there, but click the watch button in the top right and any new threads get added straight to 'my threads'.

Thanks man, yeah great points, I try to make it out to the real stuff as often as possible, I too am lucky enough to be going to the Canadian Rockies for two weeks this Easter, but I just I'm just trying to find a place to practise my tricks and keep them locked down while I'm not out in the beautiful mountains, anyways guess I'll just have to start saving for a car and hope that that works out (though I will take one trip down to hemel by public transport in the next few weeks just to see how it works out!) will also definitely check out that regional forum!
