JLevAre you saying the interwebs are running out of space so we need to save google's last hard drive to watch the 8.7 million hours of skiing edits uploaded today from "the ski industry and culture of today" instead? Hate to be realistic but Vice is far from the only medium for promoting skiing if you or other skiers from the future have something to show the world, go for it. Due to the world not giving a shit about skiing outside of our own tiny microcosm I'd be very suprised if this series (even if created better than conceived) lasts more than half a season on any main stream media channel including Vice. Vice will likely be the last place you'll be seeing any skiing in the future beyond a few of these shows that these dudes by the miracle of god and advertising barely made happen. Sorry but this is reality of our sport, even you a core participant doesn't ski half the year. So lets do what we can to help these guys make something more than we have and not worry exactly who and what it's about, if it has anything to do with skiing, it's a step in the right direction because at the current rate, skiing is declining sport, not growing.
Jason, you misread the intentions of my previous post. I'm not too concerned about space on the internet. I'm concerned about money in the industry. You're right, skiing may very well be declining in cash flow, publicity, etc.... so why are we wasting the small revenue we have left on beating the same dead horse and hoping we will keep making money? If this probably cancelled show was to feature some of the more innovative aspects to travel/film skiing that groups like The Bunch, Trashparty, or Coterie are bringing to the table, maybe people would watch, instead of the unfortunately repetitive, increasingly WME-(post warren)-esque that the people from poorboyz and friends have been providing consistently for the past 4 or 5 years. Pep is a rad skier and every skier has him to thank for more than one step toward where we are now, but don't you guys think maybe it's time that the more lucrative film groups started to cut more checks to the guys and girls that ARE progressive skiers, not the guys that WERE progressive skiers? Sure, Tanner and Pep's new segment in 20 might be good...But I would be willing to bet that there are 10 skiers capable of producing a much better segment for less money.
I would think that in the nature of early era freeskiing, people like pep, tanner, etc. woul succeed their positions in the limelight to people better suited for the spot. They shouldn't nose dive out of the industry, but spots in new pilots or major companies' opening segments should be reserved for those who deserve it now.
"To me, the roll of a pro skier is to stay on top of the game, and to keep everything new..." EP
