GH3 Video Settings

Search-barred, no hits. Thought this might be a useful thread.

I just switched from a Canon DSLR to a GH3. I'm wondering what settings ya'll are using?


Specifically, has anyone played around with:
-i.Dynamic (high/standard/low/off)
-i.Resolution (high/standard/low/extended/off)
-Profile (standard/vivid/natural/etc...)

For the profile, I'm trying to reach something similar to the neutral "cinestyle" I had on a t2i. I've read around and it looks like a custom setting adjusted to at somewhere around -4,-4,-1,-5 should be decent.

Other settings I'm using are:
-MOV 1920/1080, 60p (50Mbps)
-Multimetering
-Frame rate OFF
-Manual everything (sometimes AFS/AFF focus)


Anything I missed?
What are your settings?

So far I've been using the 50mb MOV and it works great. It doesn't work as well with my macbook air but it was much more smooth on my work computer. From what i've read, the MTS 28mb looks just as good, but I like the mov files, better for labeling etc. The mp4 mode is worthless IMO.

Right now I'm shooting Standard at 0, -3, -2, -5 with a rokinon lens. The pani lenses have more contrast I think? Anyways, I've done some experimenting with Natural too but I like Stanard better. I shot my last edit with these settings, i didn't do any grading:

1.i.Dynamic dynamically adjust exposion of picture parts so you will notice changing brightness even with manual video settings. Better to keep it off.

2. i.Resolution raises microcontrast, add some pop to your footage, i think it's better to add it in post if you need.

3. I use natural profile -5 -3(highest setting without unsharp mask artefacts) 0 -5. To make contrast lower i'm also using tiffen ultra contrast 3 filter. it raises shadows and protect lights a little bit. If you plan to use your videos straight from camera i don't recomend to use this filter but it can be helpfull for grading.

4. 50 mb/s ipb is the best mode in terms of image quality, all-i must be at least 100 mb/s to be comparable.

5. rec highlight is on to make shure there is no large blown out areas.
