College Programs

Hi all,

I've reached the time in my life where it's time to start looking at colleges. I have a few schools in mind, but am not sure of each's strengths (or weaknesses) in different programs. I did a little searching around the internet but just came up articles. Maybe I shouldn't go to college if I can't figure this out, but could anyone refer me to a site they used/know of that lists the best programs from different universities? Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same position as you and I've been using:

It has national school rankings, regional rankings, program rankings etc. Obviously you should use more than one resource, but its a good place to start.

for business schools use bloomberg news it gives you everything, the individual business school ranking, top employers, avg gap, sat/act, average starting salary and a lot more.

I made the mistake of going to college without knowing exactly what I wanted to do. On the upside, you can get all of the core classes out of the way. If I would have done it again, I would have learned a trade first. Right now I'm studying to be a Diesel Mechanic.

In-state is the way to go, either find the best private or public university in your state so you can save a lot of money. But if money isn't a problem, just search "the best" of what your interested in going to school for. Also, find a college that is fun to attend. It sucks balls to be bored in the best years of your life.

Im sorry but college rankings are the most arbitrart numbers on the planet. Granted, some schools have better than others but don't use a rank list to base the way you pick a college. The best advice I can give is to go visit the ones you have in mind, see how you fit. Ask them about job placement and things of realistic nature. More often, the higher the number is on that list, the more debt you'll be in by the end of your schooling.

I am assuming your high school has a college counselor. Talk to them. It's their job to help you and they can tell you a lot more about what colleges are right for you.

I'm hoping to make some visits to UW Madison, CU Boulder, and U of U this summer! Thanks for the advice!
