Did I just experience the greatest gaper rush of all time????-15min drive took 2hrs...

So I live 15min off of The Arizona Snowbowl and one of the greatest concerns for the locals is the crowding of gaper phoenicians (ppl from phoenix) not only on the hill but throughout the small mtn town of flagstaff which is inevitably passed by at the bottom of the mtn on the way back to phx. The reason why it is such a problem is that the only road going to the mtn is single lane-prone to traffic jams- and phx is a gaper hotspot of 3 mil+ ppl. most of these gapers consist of the douchy "I am better than you" snowboarder and the "hey lets go sledding on a ski hill" family and they are the biggest pain in the ass. unfortunately christmas is their favorite time to go fuck vibes at the mtn and this christmas break was the worst i have experienced.

So what seemed to be a quick 15 min drive home after the day quickly turned into a 2hr hassle of being stuck in my moms small sedan with ski boots and the rest of my gear on while we waited in a massive line of 15,000 gapers trying to get home. the road going from the bottom of the mtn to the resort by the top is around 5 mi long and the line stretched a 1/5 of that plus the entire 20mi+ route to the highway from there.

So my question is- Have you ever experienced such a gaper rush that your entire day was fucked over and was it as bad as mine?

I'll make up an example on the spot, get into a debate over whos story is better, and still win even though I'm lying and just making shit up but you will never notice and neither will anyone else so it doesn't really even matter now does it sir. And thats how the internet works.

not as bad, but I was gnarring down a pretty steep, sick pow line right under the ski chair. I hit this little lip, carrying way to much speed, I got tons of air, and almost stuck the landing, but wiped out. right after the fall, four little gaper fags started laughing and yelling at me about how bad at skiing I am. it made me pretty pissed for a second. later that day I saw the same gape squad and they were going pizza down a park run and cutting off other riders. I laughed so hard when I saw how bad they were, when they were the ones laughing at me. this is my sad, but true gaper experience.

One time I was riding the lift up and saw this gaper screaming how good the snow was going down the moguls. He didn't turn well so he flew face first from a bump, soon after I saw a group of kids laughing at him for his yardsale. As I'm going down to the lodge for lunch I notice the same kid sitting there laughing to himself looking at 4 skiers go down the bunny hill. Geez gapers like to laugh.

OP i got stuck in the AZ snowbowl traffic on new years. Fucking horrible. So many god damn gapers who have never seen snow or been above 8,000 feet.

And AZ gets pow. Not often, but when it dumps its typical to get 30+ inches of super light.

i live 45 mins from the hill and taking the bus took 2 1/2 hours there, and 2 1/2 hours back. it was pretty brutal

if youve been to snowbowl, you know its worse than the typical ski tourist rush. People are from phoenix and have never seen snow, or even thought about driving in it, theres a 2 lane mountain road for 15 miles, then another 15 with stoplights that aren't synced, and all of it being driven by Arizona drivers which are scared to death if theres any white on the ground.

OP like it or not, you rely on gapers and new comers to buy shit. You should be somewhat happy that people are spending money, and supporting the indutry.

its more like, Snowbowl and Flagstaff do a much worse job managing the throngs of gapers than most ski areas. They don't have a shuttle, there's no gondola from town, the road is falling apart, etc.

Sounds even worse than my hill. We have a 2 lane 16 mile road, few pull outs, and death drops most of the way. Sometimes (most the time) there will be Jerry that wont pull out and it makes for a long drive

He's from CO you dingus. He's not going to know who Sam is...

1. AZ drivers suck in ANY weather.
2. Snowbowl receives more annual snow fall than a lot of "bigger" west coast resorts making some epic pow days.
3. The majority of AZ skiers are gapers. Let's be honest.
4. Sam shreds. CJ shreds. They are the only skiers I've seen who can hold their own in the park -- and I don't just mean with AZ park rats.
5. OP sounds like a whiny middle schooler.

yeah, I raise you Park City's traffic last week, primarily last Monday night. Granted, we were in the midst of a massive snowstorm, but a 5-7minute drive out of town to the highway took me almost two hours to complete, even with cutting through side streets. im all for the money these jerries bring into town, just learn how to fucking drive for once.

Yeah, this weekend was bad here in WA. Normally it takes and hour and twenty for my commute to/from the hill... but it took me three and a half hours to get home this past Sunday. Those last few park laps were not worth waiting in traffic for the extra two hours. I gotta remember to leave early or stay late on the holiday weekends.

I guess it sucks all over. Last Saturday it took me almost 5 hours to get from Vail to Denver. Our problem is that our recent transplants to Colorado don't believe in spending money on decent snow tires. They attempt to drive up to the mountains and get stuck. Personally, I feel that if you drive up into the mountains in the winter without adequate snow tires and get stuck; you should be shot and pissed on. It's pretty much a given that all the people moving to the mountains are going to be shitty winter drivers, but without snow tires, they are just road blocks waiting to happen.

I didn't really mind the drive because the jerries that came to mount jore knew how to drive as long as they didn't drive slow. I mainly spent my time dodging them on the hill mainly because they were all over the place. It was a zoo at mount jore for two weeks straight.

Obviously living near the skiing is a blessing, but we're not allowed to bitch about the issues in our communities much like everyone else does? Thats dumb
