Mountain Diversity

In light of all the recent events portioning to dissatisfaction of ethnic equality in society such as ferguson riots, 'I can't breathe' protests, etc. I have began to look at areas of our society that remain very one-sided ethnically speaking. Now the last thing I want is to appear ignorant or even worse racist but I was just wondering why to this day there are significantly more caucasian skiers/snowboards rather than any other ethnicity. If anyone has a reasonable answer or intriguing thoughts on this topic please reply.

I think it has something to do with the difficulty of even being competent at snowsports.

It can take several years to develop skills on skis or a board, and many people don't have that time, hence why so many learn young under the guidance of their parents, whereas football or soccer or basketball can be played basically anywhere and don't require much to start out.

skiing is a heritage based sport passed down from parents to their kids, its not in a lot of schools, its expensive, and it takes dedication and resources to learn and progress. football and other sports do not require such a huge buy-in to learn, and are far more accessible.

also look to the minority populations of mountain towns, theyre often very low
