Editing software recommendations for a total beginner?

So I've got tons of wakeboard and wakeskate video footage (10+ hours) shot mainly on a Go Pro 4 Black and some iPhone 6+ that I want to put together and make some sort of basic edit out of.

I've never done any video editing before so I'm just looking for some basic, easy to use software that I can also use for any ski footage I capture this year. Just want to put something together that we can watch as a group of friends - not going to be posting online or anything but want to be able to add music etc. I have a pretty high spec PC that is brand new with tons of memory so hopefully that can handle some basic software? Doesn't have to be free, I'm willing to spend some $$ on it if I have to...recommendations?

adobe premiere cant go wrong if you just want to put it all together. and remember, everything is free on the internet.
and what specs on your PC?

Premiere is a good choice but it will require you to look at some tutorials. Windows Movie Maker is pretty easy to use and it's free. It isn't very good but I think it might work for what you're doing.

PC Specs = 4th Gen Intel Core i7 Processor, Windows 8.1, 12GB memory, 1TB hard drive. Right now it has nothing on it, I just use it for office work and all my shit is saved on hard drive so hoping it can handle a bit of editing..?

unless you use a graphic card from the 70's you are good to go!

Haha, I think I'm good.

Gonna check this all out this weekend and see what Premier is like; I don't mind spending time on it so would rather do a bit of reading and have something I can watch back than a mash up from Movie Maker...that said I'll look at both.

If you are willing to spend an hour figuring it out, go with Premiere. I would only recommend movie maker if you don't want to torrent or want something that can be used without much effort.

OK so turns out there isn't just one version of Premiere...looking on the Adobe website I can download Premiere Pro CC for free but then it costs $70 a year on a subscription which seems steep!!

Alternatively, I've found Adobe Premier Elements 13 on Amazon and I can pay $75 to download.

I don't mind paying the one off $75 if Premier Elements is what I need..?

Just download the 30 day trial of premiere pro cc then if you like it, there are ways to get it for free.

Please don't pay for software unless you're using it for commercial work. Like Heath said, download the trial of Adobe Premiere CS6 off the Adobe website, then if you decide you like it, you can get it for free easily. Pretty much as simple downloading one file then copying and pasting and theres directions for everything.

Adobe Premiere PRO CS6 is the best! Just try it. For example hitfilm express 2 is too complicated but it is faster on rendering.

Premiere will give you a headache if you're just jumping into it, but you'll figure it out after a few hours and it'll make a lot of sense.

And if you're on a PC it's probably the best option. If you were on Mac, iMovie would likely work just fine for your purposes.
