Pow ski help

So I'm trying to pick up a pair of pow sticks. I'm 6'2" 185 lbs and I ski pretty slashy, but enjoy ripping hardpack.

I'm currently demoing a pair of armada bubbas, and they're super fun but just a bit too wide underfoot.

I'm thinking Opus, magic j or yle. Thanks

Magic js are fun but not great on groomed back to lift. Heard the yles are like great for everything.

I rode opus for 2 seasons, they're fun all around the mountain. They are on the soft side and run short though.

I have 4frnt YLES and I love them. Highly recommend. I'm 5'7.5 and 130 pounds. They float awesome, but still rip the hard pack. I'm sure you'll love em. The flex is awesome too. Once you break them in you can butter around but they are still damp and stiff. They also just land switch very well. I'd highly suggest you get them man. Super fan and killer. Also they're pretty poppy. Got a nice amount of camber between the rocker

It's cause they're an awesome ski. Honestly I'd go for it. But demo if you can just in case. But yeah they're killer. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer!

They're playful for sure. The rocker profile they have is really nice and feels nice. Just has a certain buttery playful feeling to it. It's soft enough to do some butters and presses, but stiff enough to go big. When I hand flex these, they feel like the perfect flex, and they still have that same feel when I'm on them. Landing switch is just fun on these for some reason compared to other skis. And they aren't too heavy. Swing weight is real low. Ride switch well too.

Damn that sounds super fun, and sounds perfect for me. Do they run small in sizing?

just a bit. My 177s are 176 on a tip to tail pull. The ski short tho with the rocker just like any rockered ski, but they don't feel super short like other skis I've been on so that's nice.

Line Sick Day is pretty decent, only 110mm underfoot so for me it performs really well on hard pack as well as in the powder

I mounted at 4frnt recommended point, which is -2.5 from the center of the ski. I really like the mount point

Sick day series was not the freeride pow series line came up with, that would be the opus and such. I have seen some people land switch on them but the opus would be much more enjoyable to land switch on if you go line

I have not personally skied these skis, this is just what my friend told me. My friend used to have these but he said they felt heavy and not grippy. He said he just didn't like them for that reason so he sold them. He did like the flex pattern on them tho. And a ik of a couple people on this site who have bacons so Someone who has ridden them firsthand will probably reply, that was just my friends review I'm giving to you.

You're totally welcome dude. And yeah just look at reviews man. Just cause my buddy didn't like them doesn't mean you won't! Just do the research and demo if you can. Let me know if you have any more questions about the YLE or anything! Cheers man

Bacon's are a great all mountain option. Not too soft, not too stiff, enough rocker and width to have decent float, and pretty good on edge. If you like that surfy all mountain feel (and it sounds like you do), they're a great option.

Another option to look into is the Liberty Origin. I pulled the trigger on a pair and couldn't be happier. They're light, snappy, and have a ton of floatation. They're not as good on hardpack as the Bacon's, but they can hold their own for sure. They have a nice flex pattern; stiff underfoot with a bit of camber, paired with soft tips and a good amount of rocker. Plus, not that it really matters at all, the topsheet graphics are pretty sick. Rode the 122. not in deep powder, but maybe 6 or so inches and some soft chopped conditions. they are a lot more chargy than you would think. they build speed and plow through stuff very well, not quite as poppy/playful/jibby as I would have hoped though. Id maybe look at the surface new life(or balance for this year, same ski) I havent ridden them but ive ridden their 3 stage rocker on the one life and it makes for a really poppy, slashy, fun ski. probably the only skis ive ridden that could be super stiff and chargy, yet somehow feel really buttery and playful.

Sander hadley was telling me the 114s are a lot morr playful, but not as chargy

Get Dynastar Cham 127's. I think you can find them kicking around for a couple hundo since they are too beastly a ski for small folks.

I ski Volkl Shiros. Those are bomb and still are fun on the piste. Bought a second pair of them because Volkl started making a longer ski and Im tall. 203 cm yes please.
