Scorpion Cam Caddie

Okay I'm just starting out filming skiing and I have the Canon Rebel T5i. My shots are inconsistent and pretty shaky. I have a really low budget when it comes to accessories right now and I thought that a scorpion would help stabilize. They seem kinda cheap and possibly useless when it comes to skiing. Are scorpions helpful???

**I can not buy a glide cam right now!**

What's your budget? You could do a DIY fig rig with pvc pipe and just spray paint it. Or you could go the flycam route as well.

i own one. definitely better than a PVC one or opteka knockoff. as i said in a recent thread, in a recent skate edit i made i had to get down some stairs. i decided to just hop down (not the stairs but right beside them where there was just a drop) it is barely noticeable. i can embed if you're interested.

It's as stable as you make it. Stepping down a small drop is completely different than skiing across a bumpy hill or hitting a jump with it.

Yeah true. It was 3-4 feet, not very big although i thought it would be a lot shakier than it ended up. I have yet to use it for skiing but i imagine it would help with follow cams and such.

I bought an opteka a year(ish) ago and absolutely love it. Saved like $200-$300 and have a product that works pretty much as well (though it is kind of a pain to balance sometimes) as a glidecam.

I had a cam caddie before and I found it useless for skiing. I would definitively go for a fig rig instead if your on a tight budget, never used one but I would imagine the wider grip will make it allot easier to get a steady shot, also I often see ski edits filmed with them that turns out way better than I could have ever managed with a cam caddie.

I'm talking about the opteka knockoff of the cam caddie scorpion. it was like $30

Scorpion handles are great of you have a fisheye, especially if you and the homies are trading off. Wouldn't spend much on one though

All a handle is going to do is help you hold the camera at the right angle, the camera will only be as stable as your arm.
