Getting a Job as a Ski Technician

I am going to be doing a season next year somewhere in the West (Still Undecided), and I am thinking of applying for a ski/rental technician job... What are you views on this job, in terms of lifestyle?

The only experience I have is with my own personal gear. I have mounted bindings, sharpened edges and waxed but nothing to a professional level, what chance do I have landing a job like that?

It is not very hard to land a job as a ski tech, depending on the size of the town you choose. I live in Summit, Co and people are always looking for techs in the fall, its all about getting out here early before all the good jobs get taken. Most techs I know are very chill and like their jobs.

I love my job as a shop tech. Make sure you apply early, don't be that dude that drops off a resume in november when shops are all done hiring for the season.

This, I've never worked as a ski tech. but as a Bike Mechanic. The best time to apply is when they are actually hiring, not mid/early season.

It's also not what you know (maybe it is a little bit) but who you know.

i was a rental tech for a season. basically daycare for a bunch of 19 year olds who wanted a free pass. it was an epic time.
ski techs actually do repairs though, so it's definitely different--more skilled/responsibility, better pay, less ski breaks (it seemed) etc etc.

just started ski teching in whis about a month ago. its chill as fuck. well at least my store is. others I have heard are insanely busy all the time. free pass and pro deals in exchange for only getting paid minimum wage worth it. i don't know about it if you had to live in staff housing tho
