What's up with all the new "production companies"!
What's up with all the new "production companies"? Seems like every single time I log into NS someone's posted a vid entitled "episode 1" of said productions... I'm not against it, I'm just saying that its kind of annoying because it seems as if everyone's starting a "production company" every other day! Anyone else thinking along the same lines?
I can understand people who do that if they spend a ton of money on their filming setup and spend a lot of time filming and editing. Not to sound harsh, but if you're just cutting dslr clips to some song you found on soundcloud you shouldn't be calling yourself a production company unless you want to look narcissistic. Same thing goes to people who upload unedited pictures from their dslr, that's only doing half a job in my opinion.
I'm part of a group called Tree Line Tribe that isn't really a focused production company so much as just a collective of athletes/artists that collab often and like having a general forum to garner more attention. I think that a lot of people have this sort of a "company" going on...no long term plans, no budget, just a group of friends that know there is power in numbers.
This has been happening forever. You get one dude out of a crew that has a knack for filming and enjoys doing it... couple of the riders are sweet and why the fuck not produce something? Everyone starts somewhere.
It wasn't all that long ago that a couple of kids on NS announced they were starting their silly little production company... and were Stept... and 4bi9... countless others too.
I think the amount of content thats coming out of places across the world is sick. However, some the the "companies" names really get me. Its hard to take your "company" seriously when its name is something retarded to show how unique and different they are from the other production companies

I say bring it on.
This so many times over. It's nothing new and it often sparks awesome shit. If you're producing something (a production, perhaps) with a group of people (a 'company'), then good on you. If it sucks you have room for feedback and to improve and if it's dope, well then shit yeah. The more the merrier.
Sorry gents, but I'm not getting the point of this thread.
OP is annoyed. Annoyed? Yeah, "...kind of annoying" were the words used.
- Sure, not many of these companies will ever be registered firms. No offices. No conference rooms. No accountants... but that's not the point of a start-up. Literally every small firm starts with the idealism, stoke and enthusiasm of people who think that they can make something different.
- Will they be successful? Probably not. About 80% of all companies crash and burn within 18 months. And that's in the world of investors and banks. I once heard something along the lines of one idea out of sixty actually making it out there. That's 1,6% of all ideas. Not exactly great odds...
Still the next few guys will start something anyway.
- Why? Probably because they're naive enough to think that they can outdo the competitors or just dazzle people with their mad skills in whatever it is... well, filming skiers in this case - but it's just the same for a software start-up or someone creating a business out of knitting beanies.
BTW: Swedish skiers Kaj Zackrisson and Sverre Liljequist started their company Kask just that way - after a few hand-made beanies they had knitted themselves, thinking they could do better.
Above: the first beanie made by Sverre in 1995. Stylish, huh?
Today Kask is big enough to sponsor the best summer camps in Scandinavia.
And what Bishop said:
Mr.BishopI think its absolutely fantastic.
Mr.BishopEveryone starts somewhere.
That's gold. Eight words.
- Reason to be annoyed? Fuck no! These wannabe filmers deserve all the support we could ever give them. They deserve local companies chipping in a little and in return getting their logo pasted in the beginning and at the end of these crap little amateurish edits. They deserve our money flying into their Paypal account as soon as we find their productions worth buying.
- It doesn't take much to bring someone down just with words. "That was boring." "Didn't like it because, uh... I didn't like it..."
If you think you could do better, then mobilize the energy and go and fucking do it.
If not, you're just talking shit.
Now, do have a nice day.

PS. Plus, some dudes started to pick on weird names. OK, then... The world's most valuable company is named after a stupid fruit. And how about names like Matchstick? Or Brain Farm? Now, that's what I thought.
