Waxing New Skis?

So I just got new skis for the first time in like 6 years so I was wondering if I need to wax them before using them for the first time? I've been using the same pair since senior year of high school and I can't remember what I did back then when I got them. The bases seem pretty smooth right now, so I feel like I could go out a couple of times and then wax them, but I don't want to get out to the mountain for the first time and not be able to move.

I wax and tune non park skis before using them the first time otherwise i leave them as is.

Factory wax is ok but if you wax them you will get better results

Apply a warm weather wax (warmer waxes help open up the base)
Immediately scrape it off before it starts to dry.
Once again, apply a coat of warm weather wax. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so and then scrape this layer off.
Last, apply the wax that fits the temperature or the wax you want on the ski. Apply a layer to the skis. Let this layer sit until morning before you first use the skis and scrape off the wax.

Most manufactures only do a buff wax before the skis leave the factory. For maximum ski life and slipperyness you should iron wax your skis when you first get them and every 3-5 days on snow... at least. I wax every time I go out.
Waxing often and layering as Gnarco suggested keeps your bases harder so you will have fewer core shots, slide rails smoother and go faster than your friends.

Factory wax and tune is usually pish, once you have skied something thats been tuned properly you can never go back. Its come out of a machine in the factory the same kind of machine a rental comes out of. I usually hot scrape a couple of times and then throw on some decent wax for the conditions that week and then set the base and side edges by hand. I only have the shop stone grind my gear when it needs it now.

This is exactly what I do too, works great.
