earthquake and earth axis

i heard some stuff about how it might have sped up the axis or somthing changing the time or something.... someone explain

what happens is... the waves from the earthquake move through the earth and sped it up by 3 microseconds, so now an earth day is 23.99999999997seconds(haha i have no idea how much a fucking microsecond is!)

HAHAHA^. What happens, is when there is a huge amount of mass moving all at once, it will cause a unbalance. For an example, an airplane has 400 seats, and 100 people are sitting on the right, and 100 on the left. Suddenly 75 people just get up and move the whole way to the opposite side of the plane. Hope that will create some imagery. The fault line was about 690 miles long... that HUGE in terms of quakes, and for that matter, anything.

What exactly happened was, a huge chunk of mass, moved downwards, when one plate slipped below the other. If you move mass inwards, without changing the overall mass of the planet, the planet will spin faster. Just like if you are doing a 7 over a table, if you are spread eagle you spin slower with the same effort than if you are safety grabbing. The earth did accelerate, but as they said it was 3 microseconds (millionths of a second). The earth's rotational speed varies anyways, enough that everyonce and awhile scientists have to add 'leap seconds' to recalibrate the earth with documeted time.
As for wobble, the earth tilted once inch on its axis. To put that in perspective the earth poles travel in a 33ft variance. So if they were at maximum displacement, it is 1/396th larger. Richard Gross, a geophysicist with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California stated that 'The rotation is not actually that precise. The Earth does slow down and change its rate of rotation.'
That being said, there are so many variables in measuring an event like this, that the numbers could change. And it is still a theory.
