Boot Mods (Swapping Studs for screws?)

I own a pair of Full Tilt Booters, and I can sum them up to having a comfy liner but a sloppy high volume shell; it gets nowhere near as tight as I'd like them to hug my foot.

I also have some 3 year old Dalbellos with extensive bootwork done to the shell, but they had a stiff, uncomfortable and cold tongue liner.

Enter the Fullbellos.




Worked in 2-piece shell + wrap liner/insoles = best fitting boot yet! So comfortable, and they conform to my foot sooo much better now...

Now this got me thinking, 'what else can I do to mod these old shells into the perfect DIY boot?' Well, it'd be nice to transfer the full tilt powerstrap, and that shouldn't be hard.
Also, the canting is a little too far forward, and worse still, is locked in place by a non adjustable stud (or cap??). I'd like to replace that with a threaded short bolt, screw, anything that promotes adjustability.



See that cap at the heel? How do I pry that shit off?

This specific Dalbello boot probably would not survive the boot surgery you wish to perform. The plastic on that particular boot is most likely not good enough, which will result in it melting when you try to drill out the rivet that holds the cuff the shell. Plus, you wouldn't be able to simply add in a piece that allows for flex adjustment- that boot simply doesn't work like that.

Forward Lean (not canting) is what you wish to reduce and with this boot it is also not possible without even more surgery, something you won't be able to do at home. With a basic boot such as that Dalbello, you really won't be able to do much in terms of making it more upright.

I see, that is a shame, because it looks like there is room for the forward lean to be reduced. I had thought it was called canting because that's what the screw said that on the side of my full tilts.

But the liners in the boots still fit well, so this can still be a DIY solution to high volume slop, at least until I maybe get Dalbello's 3 piece boot...

Forward lean is the angle fore/aft. Cuff alignment (vastly misnamed "canting") is the side to side angle of the cuff. True canting involves changing the side to side angle the shell sits at, which is serious boot surgery since modifications have to be made with the binding interface areas of the toes & heels.
