Sony A7 worth it or nah?

Hey NS

I have been meaning to upgrade from my canon 7d. I love both photo and video but I don't want to spend money on a seperate video and a seperate photo camera. Is the A7 or the new A7 mkii a good choice for my case. I know the lens options are bare but a super small lightweight camera that is FF and shoots 1080 at 60fps seems pretty legit. I wanted to hear your insight on this camera. Is it worth it? Are there better options? I need a lightweight camera that is small and good for travel.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Ya but I heard it's not that great for stills because autofocus and it's poor in low light. I could be wrong though.

Maybe stay in the Canon line since you already have lenses. I have no experience with the higher end stuff but this way you could really spend money on lenses and go that route.

Ya that's probably good advice but I hate how heavy dslrs are now. The mirrorless is so much smaller/lighter. Will probably just sell my two only canon lenses and get the Sony E mount 55mm and the 16-35mm (if I decide to get the Sony A7 or A7 mkii)

no, please please do not get a canon dslr for video, so much fucking moire it's insane. It literally makes me worked up watching videos filmed with them.

Dslr's look fine to me. Idk what OP thinks but even the route of like the 1DC with a good lens would be stellar.

The only reason I would stay with canon is because they have a large option of lenses to chose from.

Can people just tell me what they think about the A7/ A7ii?

Are there better options with similar dimensions and weight that are great for both video and photo.

How do you like the sony A7r for both video and photo?

Do you use a metabones speed booster?
How does the adapter affect the performance of the camera?
How much wider of is the angle of view with the speed booster if you use like a 16-35 that has 109° fov?

I use the a7s not the a7r. It's great for video I mostly shoot xavc s in slog2. It's okay for photos too but normally when I know I'll be just shooting photis for the day I bring out a 7d or 5diii.

i I have the metabones Ef to E smart adapter mark Iv and the metabones Ef to E speedbooster. Both are great. Sometimes I get some light leaks but it's easy to fix with some gaff tape. And I don't think it changes the focal length or anything. I'll have to check on thag but it looks the same.

It doesn't change the focal length. That's only for speed boosters on on bodys with smaller sensors. So if you were using a mft body a speed booster would make the lens a bit wider.
