Tips on skiing Alta

Greetings fellow NewSchoolers,

I have this awesome job up in Alta this winter (I know, I know, it kinda sucks there are is no snowboarding here, but whateve...)

Anyways, I've been having trouble hanging out on the hill with the locs and my co-workers. No one seems to appreciate my steeze! Any tips on how to up my hill/liftline cred? Any tips would be way appreciated.

Tip#1: when you see the sign that says lift poles at mid station, lower your poles as far down as possible.

Greetings Moon Shoes! Happy ski season to you as well. Your advice regarding the angle station is duly noted. I use 34 inch Bamboo poles so I'm not worried so much about them breaking. A friend told me they are 10 times as strong as aluminum and almost as renewable as carbon fibre.

p.s. does anyone have any 16 flex tongues for my full tilts (preferably urban camo color.) I have the 10 flex now, but I just wish they would "give a little more back" of what I put in 'em.

Look man, this is my thread and I'm just looking for some advice. Based on your language I can tell you are not from anywhere close to good skiing, so your saltiness is understandable. Now you "bugger off!"

I welcome your comments, and yes, once the season here ends I will be back skiing the last of the parks back east. Can you say "endless winter?"

Thanks for the advice, now here's some for you: I have read your profile, and you seem very interested in "420." I would just like to warn you about the dangers of Marijuana addiction - especially living in Heber City. If you must continue this lifestyle I would recommend exploring a move to CO. Did you know recreational "420" is now completely legal there? All the best Debbie, and I trust you had a great time last week on International Women's Ski Day!

go ski snowbird and tell everyone in line for wildcat how much more bad ass the terrain over there is, and how people who ski snowbird are better because they have the Free Ski World Tour there. i think that will up ur cred the most

but on a serious note, get ready to bump elbows with people when new terrain opens, at bird or alta. should be expected, though. Fresh snow + new terrain = a good time for lots of people, at least from my own personal experiences. Just get ready for crowds when it does dump. There will be plenty of pow 2 go around, though.

start by afterbaning all your landings. never ever under any circumstances use poles. ski mostly groomers in a switch wedge, and when you ski moguls, just go straight until you explode. oh and drop punk rock to flat, guaranteed to grab other's attention

wear park skis on a pow day

and beware of those damn shoots! Alta and Jackson are the two places I've encountered that you gotta really mind your route to the bottom cause you can end up in some hairy situations, but I'm sure you've realized that by now

Just an update guys and gals:

I'm really starting to fit in here and I think things are going to be o.k. The locals here seem to be really warming up to me - can you say "cecret stash?"

gosh i accidentally did this once on collins lift, both poles snapped right in half. had to ski the rest of the days without poles, it really sucked because it was a pow day too

OP i'll ski with you if you really need some local friends, i suck though haha

You ski the High T? That is where I ski now with my new bros. I never really progressed in my big mtn when I used to hide over on the Wildcat chair all day.

yeah i love high T, especially on a deep day, it's amazing. and i agree, wildcat is fun, but there is a lot more to alta's terrain than just wildcat.

Yo yo yo! This last storm has been off the proverbial chain!

Since I graduated from Wild Kitty I just laugh to myself when I watch all those pilgrims trying to ski the flat HO in the pow while I'm rollin' laps with my new homies on the big boi chair - Collins!

But hey, I'm not hating' - everyone has gotta start somewhere. ;)
