I'll be staying in Gstaad january 2-5. conditions aren't looking too hot so any recommendations? I'm okay with just skiing a glacier but are there any nearby resorts doing better with snow?

The situation sucks in the Alps right now. We're expecting a little snow tomorrow, but that's it, nothing after that. Some say it should be snowing by the end of the month, but some say it won't. And you can't really trust the local weather forecast much either because they try to be very optimistic so people still book their trip for the holidays.
But overall it sucks, hope it starts snowing comes January. My advice would be not to book anything yet if you can, and see once you land where the current best place is. Move overnight if necessary, but the first week of January is usually heavily booked due to the holidays, so it might be a risky move too, your call.

Depends what you're into. Zermatt tends to have great conditions all year round and the terrain is great if you know the spots. Plus the park crew have outdone themselves this year. Can't go wrong there.
Only thing is that it's fucking $$$$

Good to know! my brothers friend owns property in Gstaad to I'm set with a place to stay. Zermatt seems like a good option, maybe we could trek out there for a day and then stick to glacier 3000 the rest of the time?
