Any good way to paint a helmet?

I'm buying a cheap glossy black helmet and would be interested in trying to make a matte black color. Just looking to have a fun little DIY project that wont cost me too much if I fuck it up.

Anyone have experience doing this?

1. Go to hardwear store.
2. find matte clear coat.
3. Buy it.
4. Proceed to spray it on your helmet.

I have a mate who won a bright pink helmet at a comp, he painted it matte black, and now it looks dope because the scratches are bright pink
