Apparently there was a suspicious package at the Sydney Opera House, and the entire facility was evacuated. So maybe you're right? It would make sense.
And two women, believed to be staff have left as well. Hopefully they're being freed. People escaping seems like it would only make tensions inside the cafe grow.
Labelling it as Isis only propagates fear. Muslims have already been attacked in Sydney due to this attack. Police and media ate saying he's a supporter of an Islamic state. Not an Isis sympathizer
I live in sydney, and there are a lot of unconfirmed "facts" all over the place.
1) It is not an ISIS attack. Two men are in the cafe, potentially with a shotgun and machete.
The mean are aged in their 40-50s. Very different from IS who use young people. The flag is noticeably different.
2) The area the cafe is in is significant because, a couple of months ago, there were very large police raids carried out across melbourne, sydney, and brisbane. Intel gathered in the lead up and during the raids suggested there was a plan to behead a member of the public in martin place, the centre of Sydney's cbd, where this cafe is located. I doubt they are related, it could just be a coincidence, or these two men chose this place after hearing those plans.
This is making big news in australia because this doesnt ever happen over here. There has been little to no information revealed by the police, so nearly everything you read is pure speculation.
I still the the whole terrorist thing is super over hyped.
They were already working on raising there terror threats up from nothing to purple or whatever there and nz this summer.
God forbid everyone in the world isn't terrified of terrorism.
Also now anything that happens is terrorism. If somebody robs a bank, shoots somebody, or jwalks it's because their islamic terrorists and you should bar your windows because they're coming for you next.
Channel 10 has spoken to two escapee hostages and they said the gunman wants to speak directly to the PM and have a ISIL flagdekivdelivered to the venue. The gunman also claims to have two bombs and two other bombs in the cbd
The "other bombs" is most likely bullshit. If he wanted to "terrorise", he wouldve let them off when the cbd was full. not after its been evacuated. channel 10 is also not the most trustworthy news source. very sensationalised. ABC News is the most unbiased news platform available in australia.
Any information sent from hostages inside, i think theres been a couple of facebook posts, would probably be made under duress and wouldnt be taken that seriously.

That is pure speculation from another sensationalist news channel.
4 videos were posted on youtube, containing footage of the hostages outlining the demands made by the suspect. These have since been removed from Youtube but can still be found on Facebook. Everyone is being urged not to share them so as not to add weight to his cause, so please respect that.

It's worth noting that one of the demands - for an ISIS flag to be delivered to the site - is allegedly not being met as it is the flag used in the background of ISIS beheadings.
It has also been suggested that his lack of regard for his identity indicates he doesn't expect to come out the other side of this in one piece...

Hopefully australia handles the hostages properly and give them the proper psychiatric help they may need. I've heard a lot of people cant mentally handle this kinda pressure and can be forever mentally and even physically impacted.
