Where should I move, work, or road trip?

From my fridge, to the other side of the world and everything in between. If I road trip in the states who wants to come, or where should I stop.

Kind of saying fuck everything and ready to pick up and go somewhere. Not even sure if I'm going to go somewhere where there's snow.

Feel free to give me horrifically bad advice that will potentially get me killed.

Avoid Colorado and Washington at all costs, they're full of bums. Where you really should visit is South Dakota or Somalia, they both have great Italian food.

Somewhere a little off the "obvious places to go" list would be the ozarks in late spring. Ive been to a lot of different countries and states and I have to say that was one of my most memorable trips I have ever had. Try tooling around the Little Rock area and ventura up to Branson. Or if you want to be like everyone else, just go to Vegas and waste all your money on Black Jack, hookers, and blow.

I have a fear of getting stuck there after coming very close to becoming a permanent resident when I hitched there in 2012.

Honestly pretty much all of northeast MN is a sight to see. It isn't no Denali NP or Yellowstone but it is unique in it's own way. And there is some damn good walleye fishing on Rainy and Kabetogama and for that matter pretty much all of the lakes up there.

Yo rusty come out to the west coast of BC, we're all hippy's and like to chill. Come surfing with me up in Tofino in the rainforest and then the next day we'll hit up the mountains.

Just applied to beaver creek, afton alps, vail, bear valley, and Q-parks in europe. Hoping to score Q-parks or one of the grooming jobs I put in for.

Unfortunately it's heinously late to be applying for mountain jobs. Too bad I didn't bail on my mountain at the end of last season because the intranets were OOOOOZZZZING with epic jobs. Everybody was hiring for everything. It would have been hard to decide what to send in because there were sooooo many. Now it's a day late and way more than a buck short of the poverty line.

That said I need to move. If I don't land a job I think I'm going to go to peru, southeast asia, or back to NZ.

Maybe I'll build some park features to donate to free ski areas. Something I've wanted to do for a while.

All I know is I'm getting the hell out before I go crazy.

Sometimes you just gotta know when to pull the plug. I was a little late to get there but better late than never.


Crossin my fingers and toes on the job hunt. I just want to be productive somewhere you know? Worst case I guess I can enjoy my FIRST season NOT working at a ski area in 11 years. Jesus that's a long time. I wonder what it feels to cruise down the slopes without holding a rake or shovel. I bet it feels damn good.

Also if anybody want's to play vacation roulette with me and go to some random fucking country for a few weeks and cause trouble, maybe get ourselves killed, and never come home let me know. All are welcome.

I like the sound of this. Canada doesn't like me but that's just the border people. Once I get through canada and I are tight.

I suck at surfing now but I love it. I want to do it often ish for a little while and learn how to not suck. Been stuck in winter mtn mode with a spring/fall surfin kinda mind. Pretty much ride everything on my board like a wave just wishing for some surf.

Go to Washington and take the Coho ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. The border patrol is the most relaxed I have ever dealt with. I've only surfed twice and Tofino is the most mellow place to learn and it is beautiful on the west coast.

Just sent like 3 more applications out. What sucks is that because of the timing I'm probably not even going to get considered for most because they've probably been filled yet are still listed.

Getting a good job this late would be stellar though.

I mean technically I haven't quit my job yet. But I don't think that's far away.

I do want it. I was being less than serious.

Sent out 9 or 10 applications so far. Going to probably send another 3 or 4 tomorrow and then wait and see.

It's been a few years since I've sent out a pile of applications. One of the jobs was only posted a day ago, A few in 10 days or less, than then a couple like 13 days ago. That's not TOO bad but still. It's that time of year when most places already have their shit together, people have been hired in november and people are starting to work into the rotation.

Maybe I'll get lucky. IF not I'll just throw a dart at a map and go there.

Word, I've got a truck too so we can have a whole gang up there.

Yeah Mt. Cain is dope, there's no chairlifts just tow ropes but it's almost always empty there and nothing is groomed so pow days are wicked all over the mountain. It is a lot cheaper, like a lot. The restaurant they have there is like a cozy cabin lodge and the food is delicious. So ya, if it's a pow day for sure then head to Mt. Cain if you don't wanna deal with big lift lines. There's no park, which doesn't matter to me but there aren't a lot of natural booters on the runs like at Mt. Washington. The one downside is the lack of variety with the terrain.

Sent out a good amount of applications considering its slim pickings at this point. If i dont get a job its all good. Wasnt expecting much in mid december. I was to rock out peru and go back to nz in the early maybe but would still be down for a road trip.

Every place i applied is road trippable other than europe. Mostly co a couple in ca and one in mi(i know i know but pickings is slim)

Would be down to stop and visit people and break stuff along the way. Will detour for pink names.

Man send it to central america; you can ski in chile, everything is dirt cheap, cultures incredible mixed with the various sceneries. Stay in hostels with peeps from all over the world and i mean like you could get a litre of beer, g of coke and a massage(1.5 hr) in peru for literally $10..

Yeah I heard it's affordable down there which is perfect. Dirt cheap flight plus cheap living = win for me. Also because of this though I've never really cared less about job applications I've had out. I mean I'm gonna try and get a job and rage another winter, but if I strike out it's really hard to think I'd feel bad at the thought of booking a flight south/central america. I gotta work on my spanish anyway. Maybe live somewhere non touristy where I'm forced to rely on it.

Idk man. It's good and it's bad. Idk if I'd recommend it but I really don't want to do anything else. Sometimes I'm just climbing out of one rut to get stuck in other. Other times it's epic. Regardless it's interesting.

Job interview in an hour though. Fucking stoked at the idea of a no lose situation. The only way I could lose on this is if I stay here, and I've already decided I'm leaving.

I've got some bad depression issues and other stuff. If I don't keep moving and keep things fresh things get bad. If you can get into a groove and be happy somewhere that's awesome. Maybe I'll make that happen someday.

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for, or it it's even out there, but I'm going to keep on searching.

Working on it. I feel like I'm going for American idle or something. I got a call to set up another call for an interview. That interview was a screening to get through to the department head, he called me, now I have an interview with him on friday.

But I was in for kirkwood ca, beaver creek, and keystone, HAd to choose to so in for the CO ones. No idea if I'll get em but it's all good and it's not ny. Also in for AFton Alps and Mt Brighton for grooming jobs but idk if I'll get them either. Would go there if I landed one even though those aren't the states you generally move to.

Hoping I hear back from Qparks before I commit somewhere.

Either way I'm smiling right now which is something I wasn't doing a week ago. So that means I'm doing something right.

Didn't have time to make it to oak today to quit so I'll have to go tomorrow.

If you end up wanting to hit NYE instead of streaming let me know and you can hop in the carpool to follow the lines going south. Thanks for the DSO ticket.

I have to disagree. The east coast kinda blows but Acadia national park in Maine is fucking beautiful. I hung around there for a couple days while some of my friends were checking out the university of Maine at Machias. I would definitely say check it out. I've seen sunrises in a bunch of beautiful places but that was probably the most beautiful.

the east coast is rad, you just have to get out of the suburban hellhole that is urban sprawl. The mountains in upstate NY/VT/NH/ME are just as awe inspiring as anything out west. I would rather go to the beach at obx than many places in kali. And even though I'm currently living in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen I still miss parts of Appalachia. The difference is 7 hours here gets me halfway across the state and 7 hours back east can get me from the beach, to the city, to the mountains.

Acadia is such an overlooked NP, easily one of the best

Well I quit my job today. I probably should have done that before I started sending out applications saying "no I'm not employed" lol but I wanted to wait and get my head straight.

Wanted to go out on good terms. I put a lot of time into the place and though I have pictures of everything I built it's nice to have a good reference. Also if for some reason I was ever pulled back here I could work there again. I never like to leave a job on bad terms.

Going to keep working the next 2-4 weeks depending on if I get a job, or where I move.

Colorado and Peru seem to be the top choices. Skipping winter(though a crazy though) doesn't really phase me that much. I had last winter, winter over the summer in NZ, the first 1/3 of this winter, possibly some summer skiing at beartooth, then probably another winter summer in NZ. So if I rock out a summer instead of winter I'm not going to cry.

Waiting to hear back on the jobs though. If I land a grooming job I'll take it regardless of location.

Also if I go out west and anyone wants to cruise along hit me up. PS: IF you're going to murder and rob me at least let me have one last heady beer and a bacon cheeseburger with fries before you do it.

Detroit. Some ill spots to urban ski, people are really friendly usually. I like long walks by myself at night through beautiful dark streets. So relaxing after a fun day of urban skiing in some friendly neighborhoods.

Got the job at beaver creek. Talked to the manager for over an hour. IT was an interview but got a run through of the mountain, the vibe, the features, the parks, the budget etc.

Pretty likely on taking it. I have till monday to decide. Probably going to start looking into housing would be a road trip from the 5-7ish of jan.

I really do like the idea of wandering around peru for no reason, with nowhere to be, nothing I need to do, nobody I know, and just some general freedom. That said, after talking with the manager I like the sound of things and think I'm gonna give it a shot.

Plus, never been to CO. I wanna ski powdurrrrr
