snowballsdeepya i hope to know some basics like yes, no, i don't understand, and thank you, please, just some general stuff. so i found that I'm going to shoot to go after i finish my summer semester because i have a 3 or so week break then from school. so i have 200 isn days to save 3000$ and learn and plan this thing, I'm pretty set on paris now. i want to travel out side of paris as well any ideas of what else to see thats near there that i can get via public transit.

snowballsdeeplooks like the best flight price i could find is 1483 round trip charlotte nc to paris. I'm not sure if ill get that or just go one way for 918 and fly back from somewhere else yet, due to I'm not sure where I'm going to go outside of paris now that i know how cheap rail is.

and I'm budgeting 75 a night for hotel because I'm not down for the hostel thing. and 75 a day for taxis/trains and food and art galleries and what not ( is this enough ?) . looking to stay at most 4 days in paris in a 12 day trip. i have a rough date of aug-5 to aug-17.

I'm looking to catch a train to somewhere else dope in that area. my girl has some family over in frankfurt Germany so we may go there for 2 days or so. but I'm also looking at maybe Switzerland or Belgium ? any ideas would be great.

Its looking like 3K will not be enough to do all this with spending almost 2000 just after 4 days in paris ( if you include plane tickets. or i could be wrong. leaving 1k for the other 8

If you want to fly cheap, yet not Ryanairstyle just fly from hub to hub: JFK to OSL for example (or Germany but OSL has been real cheap the last few months) then pick connecting flights too and from the hubs.

150 for Carolina > JFK, then 350 for JFK > OSL, then 120 for OSL > Paris

So say 620, 650 to be on the safe side and that includes returns.

omnidataI just noticed you fly in August, then don't book so far in advance, keep a 1-3 month window before flight for booking, at that time prices are the lowest.

RachyJust be aware, the time you want to go to Paris is either really great or really terrible depending on how you look at it.

Paris is hot as balls in August. Also, right around that time is when all the parisians are on vacation. So a lot of shops, cafes, and other businesses will actually be closed. There are areas you'll walk through that will look totally abandoned. It's bizarre. I lived in Paris for the month of August 3 years ago. I've been there in late June as well as February and would say June was the most fun but it was beautiful to see Paris covered in snow.

Another airline to look into is Iceland air. I've flown with them and done the stop over in Iceland. Their one way flights are around $400. Looks like you can fly Paris to JFK with a stop over in Iceland (for up to 7 days) for $409. It's a little more, but Iceland is fucking beautiful and it's something totally different than what most people do. I stayed in a beautiful hotel for I think $120 a night and ate shark for dinner. Good times.

snowballsdeepI'm pretty sure that would be flying iceland air. and i don't think ill have but a two hour layover there. also i have allot on the agenda so I might only stay 2 days in paris, the head over to frankfurt germany and down to switerland, hit a few towns there. then on to italy ending in naples . also fuck you for eating shark.

snowballsdeepi also thought new England was right above England and not in the northern US up until a few months ago... I'm geographically challenged.

IliveinutahSo I'm starting to save up to do some of my first international traveling. i should be able to take one week long trip per year if they cost no more then $3000 in total.

I am still debating on where to go so any recommendations would be dope. Im 19 as of now and i believe thats to young to rent a car, not sure if thats only in the US??

Im not traveling to ski although I'm not ruling that out. Ill likely be traveling with my girl that doesnt know how to ski.

Im thinking about paris, greece or rome as a starting trip just to get my legs under me before i try to get out there in the more remote parts of the world due to transportation issues. any tips or stories would be dope.

Bummed that the likely hood of being able to work in Australia next year is very low. Obviously was a no go this year. I really like my job there, the place i work, the people. I wouldn't be surprised if they were like "fuck off" as far as work visas still, especially for americans.
