Cutting yourself with skis? (Not emo)

Making this thread cause this just happened to me for the second this year. First time was in my shop, just picked up a pair of alpha xs and cut the pad of my thumb. Went in the the shop today to get my new batallas mounted and cut the side of my thumb(same thumb) on my batallas.

So I guess I just need to stop grabbing skis with my right hand in my local shop cause I'm running out of fingers lol

I've cut my hands so many freaking times. Also sliced my lip once. Not fun.

I always cut my hands when I'm tuning my race skis cuz they are razor sharp.. Not on my freestyles though they are rounded out

Ok I cut myself on my skis but it wasn't my hand, I cut open my leg because last year I just started park and I didn't realize my din setting was so low until I did a 180 tail and my ski popped off when I landed and I fell on it. 4 inch long 1 inch deep cut on my thigh it fucking sucked I had to get 38 stitches

cut my eyebrow on my edge last year from leaning my face on my skis while holding them. I looked like a poser that tried to cut those lines in my eyebrow for like a month :((

I always assumed you looked like the rock n roll guys in your icons!

I slice up my gloves doing grabby twirls sometimes but I don't think I've ever broken skin...that's when you know you're really tweakin it.

Duct tape around your mittens before you even touch your skis. Works wonders.

i dont eat shit very often, but when i do i tend to scorpion pretty violently. i've kicked myself in the back of the head with the tail of my ski real good a couple times. first time i had to get like three or four staples. second time i was poor as fuck and my new job's insurance plan hadn't kicked in, so i said fuck a doctor, and had a buddy help me clean and superglue that shit shut. in desperate times the hardware store can actually be a pretty decent alternative to the hospital, haha... switched to 3/4 edge wrap skis after that and it hasn't happened again (*yet).

fun fact: cyanoacrylate glues were often used in a spray form in the field by vietnam medics who needed to stop bleeding but didn't have time to safely perform a proper suture.

only if you ski park. Everything else you want your edges sharp as hell. Even if you ski pipe you need sharp edges

I was spring skiing a couple years back with just sunglasses on, ate shit on a rail and split my eyebrow in two places (not sure how that happened). But hair still doesn't grow there so now I look like a constant douchewad poser unless I color them in. It sucks.

But the worst is when you're detuning and you get those tiny little metal shards in your hand that you can't see but you can feel them when you move your hand. I did cut through a pair of leggings and into my calf once with freshly tuned skis. Still pissed about that, those were my favorite leggings.

Got a nice cut on my thumb hitting a summer setup a few years back. The nerves are still fucked up. If I put my thumb in running water I feel the water almost at my wrist, and it feels numb when I touch it. Got a sexy scar to impress the ladies though.

First time: landed on my hand learning hand plants in the pipe = 5 stitches in the thumb.

Second time: under rotated a 900 and fell back onto my ski as it was rolling down the landing behind me = 9 stitches in the lower back.

Third time: Was on some rental race skis with demo bindings. Hit the uphill side of a mogul and the ski popped off my foot - coming up and slapping me in the face. = 25 stitches in my face. (12 of them inside my nose - almost cut my nose right off).


I'm really, really hoping that the trend doesn't continue. It's suck to not only cut myself a fourth time with my skis, but each time the cuts get worse... gonna loose a leg or something next time.

Sounds like op has pussy hands... But on the real, don't grab with your palm on the largest surface, but instead with it on the edges, this will help out. I always wear gloves when doing a cold wax, I can't even count how many times I have slipped with the wax and nicked my hand on my edges.
