Today, I decided to enjoy a day to myself out skiing. Everything was chill. It was 40 with spring-like conditions. The park was on point and overall, everything was going as I had hoped. I went to go waddle back in line after a run(I don't use poles) and as i'm standing there in line, I notice a kid with directional/regular skis riding switch. I stood there thinking to myself, that would be hilarious yet awful if he caught his tails. He was not looking over his shoulder and it was obvious he wasn't sure of what he was doing. He started to get really close to the lift line and he wasn't turning/stopping; this kid was coming in HOT. One guy yelled at him to "watch it!", but it was too late. Too late for him to stop, and too late for me to do anything. The gaper plowed straight into the lift line, aka, mingg's body.

After being stuck underneath a fellow lift line buddies body, I stood up and felt a sharp pain in the wrist that got wedged between myself and another person's toe piece. This led to a nice visit to the ER where I found out that I had fractured my wrist.

So, NS. The moral of the story is I got rekt by a gaper.

i just had surgery on my wrist for a TFCC tear and some other tears from baseball. sorry to hear about the injury, but you could ski with it just as long you take it easy and dont fall. but really tho, i feel your pain, it really sucks. you have to wipe your butt with the opposite hand than normal (that was my biggest challenge)

Gapers are dangerous as fuck if someone lets them go speeding all over the place with no control. But that was a fun story though.

Interesting...I didn't know that gapers had the physical abilities to do any harm to skiers (except for gapers in large groups, never underestimate gapers in large groups)

They're secretly the most dangerous kind of skier.

Luckily he was not gaper tucking and I did not get impaled with a pole.

Fun fact about gapers: Here in Finland , during the holiday season we have RUSSIAN GAPERS all over the resorts, for some reason they believe that Finnish ski resorts (even the small ones) are a great place to go "skiing" and enjoy the holidays. They are the most dangerous thing I have ever encountered, they are not like normal gapers, they go full retard. Last season I saw one speeding a slope with just one ski on with no control at all, and eventually he just crashed hard. The fact that they on't even speak the same language makes it even more complicated, because when they do something crazy you can't even communicate with them. They just yell furiously in russian then proceed to do what they are doing.
Long story short: Russian super gapers.

At my old resort, the problem of gapers going out of control and killing people at the bottom got so bad that they put 4 layers of racing fencing along the entire bottom of the hill (only 3 trails but they are wide) and you had to weave through it like a line at an amusement park to get through. Well, the gapers thought this was meant for them to go even faster and they all made it a game to keep lapping and see who crashed into the gate first.

Long story short, the eventually broke through it all (in one day) and some chinese woman who thought she didn't need a lesson, then couldn't stop and she hit a bench and broke both legs.. The bottom of tiny hills are so dangerous!

we have a pond at the bottom of our hill that they crash in to. love it when that happens. feels like justices for skiers everywhere.

nothing warms my heart like the sight of carhartts and camo soaked to the bone. the best part is it's the midwest, and the lodge/parking lot is at the TOP of the hill, so they have to ride up to the top SOAKED.
