How is there no thread on this yet? Apparently some pretty nasty interrogation techniques were used against terror suspects without positive results following 9/11 and then they lied about these results to the White House.

In my opinion this was one thing that i actually saw displayed accurately in a movie, if you watch the scene in Lone Survivor and see the younger mans eyes. it is really accurate, they want to kill us.

I am not some psycho who wants people dead, or tortured, however when you see someone look at you like that you wont care what happens to them so long as you leave on that plane breathing.

Copy pasta from my response to an idiot who posted similar sentiments on Facebook, his post stated that he didn't understand why people made a big deal about torture.

"Sorry, but this is a topic I feel pretty strongly about, and I need a five minute hiatus from studying. No hard feelings, just voicing my opinion.
It could be the individuals that are wrongly accused, imprisoned, and tortured despite having nothing to confess. Or say they are without a doubt guilty; torture based interrogations have an overwhelming tendency to produce false information. There have been no scientific findings that prove torture to be an effective means of interrogation. A desperate, psychologically unstable detainee is likely to tell interrogators whatever they "want" to hear to escape being tortured, which only perpetuates further misinformation. Interestingly enough, statistics actually show that use of torture by the US is counterproductive, as it is the number one recruiting tool used by terrorist organizations, which are notorious for using the practice themselves.
Guilty or not, torture is also morally unacceptable. In a system based on upholding law and order, torture not only undermines that foundation, but lowers institutions that allow it to the level of the individual being tortured. It's difficult to promote a nation-wide image of justice and superiority as a world power when utilizing barbaric practices such as torture.
As with most rights that are rapidly disappearing in this country, we often see the birth of such atrocities in war. Take for instance, the Patriot Act. We as Americans have waived nearly every aspect of our privacy under the guise of "protecting Americans" and catching terrorists. Or perhaps the domestic use of unmanned aircraft to monitor civilian activity. The emotional appeals used to limit firearm possession also come to mind. How long will it be until torture is passed off under the same excuse? I know I'm not the only person bothered by the rapid police militarization we're seeing in this country."

Yes, you are. I sincerely hope you're trolling. Do you realize how astonishingly fucked up it is that you're giving the go-ahead to torture someone because they MIGHT know something useful? You're telling me that if someone is SUSPECTED of a crime we as a nation have the RIGHT to take them from their home, torture them, and if they turn out to be innocent, you just say, sorry buddy, carry on. Even if they're guilty, why torture? Do you gain some sort of pleasure from humiliating people? Or torturing someone to the point they're begging for death, only to bring them back so you can do it again? I don't know how anyone could be so fucked in the head.

I'd hardly call being stuffed in a box too small to get out of the fetal position for days on end and being deprived of sleep for days because the guards loudly blast death metal into your cell and having food forcefully shoved up your asshole and getting water boarded 80+ times "world class". If you want to see world class prisons, look at Sweden. The mere fact that you're directly comparing the prisons of the United States - the most powerful country in the world - to the prisons of some raggedy ass band of terrorists that behead people on tape says a lot. We should hold ourselves to a much higher standard than that.

my point being is that war isnt pretty. something that is not portrayed over here well at all. Its different over there man.

War used to have some sort of common ground with the enemy. POW's had rights. We were all the same. they fought for their country and I fought for mine, we may hate each other but we respect each other. Not anymore, we do not fight an army. we fight women, children, and the men that convince them that strapping a bomb to them or out in the street is a good idea. You dont know who your enemy is. You cant treat a kid like a kid, he could have a bomb strapped to him. he could just be here to see how close he could get to us before we threaten to shoot him.


I'm sorry but i hate hearing someone talk about something that you have never experienced.

lets think about this too, they are in GITMO, howd they get there? clearly we find these people highly valuable. its not cheap to put them on a plane and fly them there.

Yes it is. Not to mention, conservative estimates place the ratio of wrongfully imprisoned detainees at one in five, although it is thought to be even greater because there are so many false admissions of guilt, you know, because that's what happens when you're tortured.

Doesn't anyone get this? If you were naked, locked in a cold, tiny concrete cell for what seemed like an eternity, fed through a tube up your ass, then subjected to water-boarding, and I told you that it could stop if you admitted you were guilty, it doesn't matter what the crime is, it doesn't matter if you're innocent or guilty, you're going to say you did it, because at that point you truly believe, in your desperate, traumatized brain, that whatever the penalty for the crime, it couldn't possible be as bad as what you're going through now.

That is why torture isn't effective. It's not a matter of opinion, this is fact.

please enlighten me how cheap it is. hourly running cost is about 12k for a c17. and these are prisoners right, so they arent paying for a ticket to fly there. that does not include maintenance and ground expenses.

Torture is effective at getting information from a suspect. even the most highly trained resistance expert has his limits. As someone who has gone through resistance training and probably had all of that done to me minus the ass stuff which is just weird. it really is not that easy to break someone. they will more than likely give up on you unless it is someone like UBL who would have lots of information and be trained.

Just look it up, you'll find that all the studies made on the topic concluded that torture gives, at best, inconclusive intelligence, if not completely unreliable.

This is just a fact, not an opinion. A man will say anything to get out of torture, it does not mean he will give quality and reliable intelligence, and it fact, in most cases, he does not.

Add to this fact the number of innocent people tortured, and the fact that it goes against everything the US claim to stand for, and now weight in the pros and cons.

The US torturing people will help terrorist organization recruit, it will help them gain sympathy, and the US and their allies will loose credibility. More people will die because of this. And for what ? Non-reliable useless intelligence ?

You have some people coming to your country and claiming to be the good guys, to fight for human rights, freedom and everything. And in the back, they torture people including innocents, without any form of trial like it's 1352 ?

Well, I'm sorry, but they just fucked up, and I have yet to see a fact to prove me otherwise.

The world is a cruel place and saying that it is inhumane to treat someone in such a way that wouldn't think twice about doing it to you is idiotic. How do you think Americans we treated in Viet Cong POW camps? I bet a hell of a lot worse than Vietnamese were treated under the Americans. We can not try to be a "role model" and limit our tactics on getting what we need as a country. The world is a cruel place, and those who oppose that fact don't get very far, adapt or die.
As for her releasing that information I am 100% against it. There are certain things that we the public do not need to know for are own good and for the safety of our service and ex service members

As to your 'fact', I'm glad you brought that up, because in fact, the killing of Bin Laden has nothing to do with torture, look it up.

I'll give you the relevant part:

Yah these people organized the largest mass civilian casualty event in American history, and I get that this is really important to Americans because of the amazing job your government has done at convincing you that this was the most evil act ever perpetrated against any humans ever, so I can understand why you have completely forgotten that these are people as well. Putting them in a box the size of a mini fridge, doing fake executions, drowning them to near death, attacking them mentally and sexually, and holding them without any charges or the slightest chance that they will ever see a fair trial, just makes them hate Americans more. This just goes to show why "the global force for democracy" as your military ads say, is not at all a global force of democracy but a global force of imperialism and destruction who is only just barely holding onto any global dominance they once had.

Torture is not cool no matter what.

OK don't trust CNN, then google and use the 20 other different sources that report the same thing. There are plenty others out there for your lazy, dumb ass to gawk at. That article you posted is stating that the CIA claimed their techniques revealed vital info. Its a fact the CIA has been lying to everyone about their "enhanced interrogation" techniques and the effectiveness of said techniques. So you're willing to trust one of the most untrustworthy and sketchy government agencies over a biased news organization that's reporting the same exact thing as every other news organization?

Just because we're viewed as the strongest nation doesn't mean we should always be holding our "standard" that everybody thinks we should be at. Everyone saying that the torture is wrong and evil are the people that still believe the world is supposed to be one gigantic happy place, when really it's supposed to be whatever we make it, and this is what we've made of it. 2. the methods used were above and beyond to the point of fatality and making the perpetrators sick and cry (reminder: done to innocent people), one that stood out for me was force-feeding prisoners through their anus for no reason other than torture.

3. it isn't even working, and you're still scared of terrorists, even though you're perfectly safe and comfortable in your torture-free probably-not-even-as-innocent-as-the-victims life.

the CIA should be ashamed, and just because they work for the American government doesn't mean that you should trust them (actually, that's a pretty good reason not to), or support the crimes they've committed.

we've been trying to make it a better place for what? Our entire lifetime?Well where have we gotten? Nowhere. Everything just keeps getting worse and worse, nothing will ever get truly better. Some conflicts will stop and people will think "hey the world is better now". Then another conflict will start and we are right back where we started. It's a total losing battle. It sucks major cock that the world works like this, but it is what it is. Just gotta keep on movin on.....

The problem is we spent 81 million (that's just what the doctors who worked on the project made, I can't even imagine how much money was actually spent on doing this) and we didn't get anything from the torture. Nothing the terrorists said turned out to be true and there was no positive outcome from this torture. It was just a huge waste of money and time, that's the problem.
