How is there no thread on this yet? Apparently some pretty nasty interrogation techniques were used against terror suspects without positive results following 9/11 and then they lied about these results to the White House.

I would have happily performed torture on the terrorists. In fact I think the report showed that the american intelligence agencies are a bunch of well educated pussies who believe in "mental" tactics. I bet they brought in a fucking shrink to persuade the terrorist into giving up information. Its no wonder why we didn't get shit, because we were barely torturing them. Get a knife and go to work, the information will come. These are the things you have to do with high profile terrorists.

Fun fact is that most terrorists have no regard for the people who they worked with in the past. The view of sacrificing yourself for others is a very american or western ideology. Most terrorists when captured will simply give up all the information they know. That is why they are so fucking unorganized and haven't spread past main st. since 9/11

Let's put aside History and the fact that people fought and died for human rights, let's forget about those people, and how this situation goes against what America claims to stand for, and let's try another approach, a purely rational approach:

It's pretty ironic that some people in this thread do not realize how America torturing people is actually beneficial to the terrorists organizations around the globe.

Don't you understand more people are actually going to die at the hand of terrorists and that terrorist organizations are going to grow stronger because of this ?

I understand some of you are young, but you need to open up to the world and understand, at the very least, the basics of geopolitics (and some history would't hurt either) before mouthing off from the comfort of your bedroom about things you do not understand.

Al Quaeda and Isis ? Oh, they are celebrating right now.

Also, just a sparknote, the US did not gain any useful intelligence from this, since it has been proven for years now that torture simply does not work.

A WHOLE FAMILY OBLITERATED without a trial and of any suspected crimes.

Now we are ordering drone strikes in Yemen without a declared war. Killing innocent children and women! No less than a year ago, under presidential order a drone strike was ordered on a suspected Al Qaeda member. Suspected?? This strike alone killed 14 innocent children and dozens of women. We create the terrorist we are trying to fight, we also sometimes covertly arm and fund them.

Agreed. Waterboarding sucks but its not even that bad. Don't get me wrong its miserable and makes you feel doomed; but I would choose waterboarding over traditional "Methods" any day. Struggle for a while, pass out maybe, struggle a little longer, pass out, get tossed back into a cage.

Getting my finger nails torn off? Getting lashed? Getting starved? Shit, even sleep deprivation would suck more then waterboarding after a while. Theres a more traumatic effect of the physical damage being done to you then the mental thought of drowning/doom once you catch on to the fact that you're not going to actually drowned (given its still exhausting)

But they're just sand people. Women children who cares they're all uncivilized terrorist fucks and if any of them aren't they might as well be.

The way people(not just Americans) but people around the world view other people is the route of a lot of our problems. Normal everyday people that haven't done anything wrong ARE PEOPLE. It doesn't matter where they live, their culture, etc. It's so easy for us to blow of some civilians getting killed here and there because to us they aren't people. I'd say they were dogs but we'd probably get far more riled up about killing dogs. It's fucking sick honestly.

The fact that some people actually believe that there is a constant threat of some of these countries taking over america at any point is insane. The idea that we have to kill civilians in the name of "freedom". It doesn't even make any sense. As if we're one step away from some red dawn type situation at every turn.

The government poses a bigger threat to your freedom than some scary brown guy living in the "sand dunes" as frenchy said. But whatever. Kill them all because red white and blue and freedom and stuff.

Correlating the two is like saying:

Catholic = IRA
Christian = KKK or LRA (Uganda)

The fundamentalist or extremists of any one group/religion are not representative of the whole.

I would agree that most middle eastern terrorist groups are fundamentalist/extremist Muslims. It's just unfortunate that Islam and terrorism often have such a close connection.

I think it's really important to remember in these discussions that here are far more moderate Muslims that extremists who are just as outraged at the actions of ISIS/Al Qaeda/etc. as the rest of America/Canada/other western countries.

For some reason, ISIS is having a much easier time convincing young western Muslims to take up 'the cause' than the KKK, or AN, is having convincing young western Christians to take up racism.

Oh wait, Christianity is not stuck in the middle ages, despite some attempts at it. You will find very few Christians who think the church (or their church) needs to go back to its pre-Westphalian style; and groups who argue for a return to 'fundamental' Christianity find themselves gaining less and less traction. Nobody was complaining when the World Trade Center was a pile of smoking rubble. Also, America is the only country dumb enough to allow liberal hippies to beat them into airing their dirty laundry for the whole world to see. This is overkill, and only moves us backwards.

I think the main issue as to why there are many angry over this, is because America is held to a higher standard as to how we treat our POWs over how another nations or militant groups would. We preach how people shouldn't ever be tortured, when low and behold, we are using the same methods. Now China and North Korea wants us to apologize for our hypocritical ways.

Another issue here is, studies show that torture is not a good way of getting intel, and it could potentially harm - for lack of a better word - "innocent" people.

We have the means and interrogation ways of getting solid intel that doesn't involve torturing another person. Why we aren't using those methods more... I don't know.

It seems easy to justify torture by saying that terrorists would commit the same acts against Americans if given the chance - and they would, but it's difficult for US foreign policy to be taken seriously if we are the defenders of freedom and a democratic legal process yet we torture citizens of other sovereign states.

My feelings: If the CIA had been able to keep the tortures a secret, I feel that the benefits gained outweigh the many, many downsides. Unfortunately, we cannot continue these acts once the world knows; or, at least, we cannot allow them to know that we torture known terrorists.

right because thats not classified information or anything.

trust me there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes with our country. I am lucky and unlucky at the same time getting to see this shit with my level of security clearance. and that is only information that pertains to my job.

i can guarantee you there was information gathered from torture. and I can also say that they will not be releasing that information anytime soon.

If you're friend got killed by some angry terrorist because of this release you'd change your tune real quick. It's that sentiment you have that's bringing us down. I wish you could go over there and see the way those "people" look at us. women and children look at you with fucking evil in their eyes. you know that if they had the gun in their hands you would have been dead a long time ago. In my opinion this was one thing that i actually saw displayed accurately in a movie, if you watch the scene in Lone Survivor and see the younger mans eyes. it is really accurate, they want to kill us.

I am not some psycho who wants people dead, or tortured, however when you see someone look at you like that you wont care what happens to them so long as you leave on that plane breathing.

you know I don't think the CIA really gives a shit if they lie to the white house or not. They know that we need them so it's not like we're seriously going to punish them right? Who cares if we torture em. We can't just get rid of the CIA and the NSA. They can really do whatever the hell they want.
