How is there no thread on this yet? Apparently some pretty nasty interrogation techniques were used against terror suspects without positive results following 9/11 and then they lied about these results to the White House.
ES.if you don't want to be tortured then don't be a terrorist
Because we've never ever tortured anyone who wasn't a terrorist. Then again the definition of that is so fucking broad these days you could probably work everyone into it even if they were innocent.
Also good luck proving you're not a terrorist if you get picked up. Maybe the truth with come out at trial, oh wait no you're fucked.
Racism is still fucking huge in this country. It's insane that the shit people say is not only accepted but many times encouraged.
They water boarded Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the architect of the September 11th attacks, 183 times. Too bad they didn't water board him another couple thousand times. Once for every victim of the attack.
ASkierNamedJaymzWhat is America fighting for if we become terrorists? Additionally do you understand what this does to American troops? Even beyond the obvious backlash and anti-American feelings that are spread and lead to more terrorism. I mean the actual effect that carrying out these orders had on the often unwilling torturers. Terrible
I am impressed with American officials for at least being more open about the actions, however horrific, many governments simply hide and deny.
Ps - the term alleged terrorist is more accurate for most of these cases as those being detained clearly didn't have due process. We sure do like to label "the other" and dehumanize them with terms like terrorist
I would have happily performed torture on the terrorists. In fact I think the report showed that the american intelligence agencies are a bunch of well educated pussies who believe in "mental" tactics. I bet they brought in a fucking shrink to persuade the terrorist into giving up information. Its no wonder why we didn't get shit, because we were barely torturing them. Get a knife and go to work, the information will come. These are the things you have to do with high profile terrorists.
Fun fact is that most terrorists have no regard for the people who they worked with in the past. The view of sacrificing yourself for others is a very american or western ideology. Most terrorists when captured will simply give up all the information they know. That is why they are so fucking unorganized and haven't spread past main st. since 9/11
KravtZReally your going to have a moral compass with terrorists? People who openly hate and celebrate the death of US citizens. They video live beheadings and post it on the internet. They are savages. We can't show them any form of respect. We get the info however it takes (torture or not), and after that they are useless.
Dude there are hundreds of AMERICAN videos of live executions by american drones and airstrikes on the internet, couple Americans beheaded, thousands of Arabs killed by incredibly sophisticated technology.
(not supporting the beheading of american citizens in any way)
.frenchyWho would of thought the people hating are mega lib-tards and Canadians.... Hahahahaha.
Waaaaaah cry more, I hope we pick up some more of these fuckers from the sand dunes they live in and baptize em through some good old fashion water boardin'. It's the American way!
Hell yea man, everyone in the middle east is a terrorist. Lets get em all.
Let's put aside History and the fact that people fought and died for human rights, let's forget about those people, and how this situation goes against what America claims to stand for, and let's try another approach, a purely rational approach:
It's pretty ironic that some people in this thread do not realize how America torturing people is actually beneficial to the terrorists organizations around the globe.
Don't you understand more people are actually going to die at the hand of terrorists and that terrorist organizations are going to grow stronger because of this ?
I understand some of you are young, but you need to open up to the world and understand, at the very least, the basics of geopolitics (and some history would't hurt either) before mouthing off from the comfort of your bedroom about things you do not understand.
Al Quaeda and Isis ? Oh, they are celebrating right now.
Also, just a sparknote, the US did not gain any useful intelligence from this, since it has been proven for years now that torture simply does not work.
TOAST.Hell yea man, everyone in the middle east is a terrorist. Lets get em all.
Nah, not all. more like 989% :^)
Blurstthe point was is that both Islamic extremist and the American government are uploading videos of executions to the internet.
True. But at least when i'm feeling a little down I can look up 'HellFire Missile hits wooden shacks, kills 36 insurgents' and feel a little better about my day.

Moon_ShoesProtection from cruel and unusual punishment only applies to US citizens.
Well no, because a year ago, under presidential order, US citizen Anwar al-Awlaki, was murdered for not what he did, but for what he was going to do? He was a lawful citizen, advocating and preaching about how "not one US citizen should be killed for the detainment of innocent muslims in America,” This all changed when JSOC tried to assassinate him. He went from being an American boy to something he opposed and spoke against. Without committing any crimes, he was murdered by a hellfire missile.
A few weeks later, his 16 year old son was murdered by a drone strike, under presidential order, while eating breakfest with his friends. That sounds like murder to me!
A WHOLE FAMILY OBLITERATED without a trial and of any suspected crimes.
Now we are ordering drone strikes in Yemen without a declared war. Killing innocent children and women! No less than a year ago, under presidential order a drone strike was ordered on a suspected Al Qaeda member. Suspected?? This strike alone killed 14 innocent children and dozens of women. We create the terrorist we are trying to fight, we also sometimes covertly arm and fund them.
True. But at least when i'm feeling a little down I can look up 'HellFire Missile hits wooden shacks, kills 36 insurgents' and feel a little better about my day.
Correction, hellfire missile might have killed 36 suspected terrorists with 12 women and 5 children posed as collateral damage.
CirilloThey water boarded Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the architect of the September 11th attacks, 183 times. Too bad they didn't water board him another couple thousand times. Once for every victim of the attack.
Agreed. Waterboarding sucks but its not even that bad. Don't get me wrong its miserable and makes you feel doomed; but I would choose waterboarding over traditional "Methods" any day. Struggle for a while, pass out maybe, struggle a little longer, pass out, get tossed back into a cage.
Getting my finger nails torn off? Getting lashed? Getting starved? Shit, even sleep deprivation would suck more then waterboarding after a while. Theres a more traumatic effect of the physical damage being done to you then the mental thought of drowning/doom once you catch on to the fact that you're not going to actually drowned (given its still exhausting)
CONAIR_BUSCEMIYou probably just group the words muslim, arab, and islam with terrorist, don’t you?
Well, Muslims are the people who follow the religion of Islam.... So no shit you're going to correlate terrorism (ISIS/Al Qaeda) with the religion of Islam, because the word Islam is in ISIS, you're a fucking window licker.
CONAIR_BUSCEMICorrection, hellfire missile might have killed 36 suspected terrorists with 12 women and 5 children posed as collateral damage.
Yeah, because women and children can't be terrorists too, right? Guess you've never heard of Black Widows? Or children fighting for ISIS?

But they're just sand people. Women children who cares they're all uncivilized terrorist fucks and if any of them aren't they might as well be.
The way people(not just Americans) but people around the world view other people is the route of a lot of our problems. Normal everyday people that haven't done anything wrong ARE PEOPLE. It doesn't matter where they live, their culture, etc. It's so easy for us to blow of some civilians getting killed here and there because to us they aren't people. I'd say they were dogs but we'd probably get far more riled up about killing dogs. It's fucking sick honestly.
It's one thing to be patriotic, but the nationalism that's engulfed our country is over the top. I guess if you hear shit enough you start to believe your own hype.
We're the best, we're awesome, everyone in the middle east(except the jews and american citizens) are garbage and fuck them all because freedom and stuff.
The fact that some people actually believe that there is a constant threat of some of these countries taking over america at any point is insane. The idea that we have to kill civilians in the name of "freedom". It doesn't even make any sense. As if we're one step away from some red dawn type situation at every turn.
The government poses a bigger threat to your freedom than some scary brown guy living in the "sand dunes" as frenchy said. But whatever. Kill them all because red white and blue and freedom and stuff.
.frenchyWell, Muslims are the people who follow the religion of Islam.... So no shit you're going to correlate terrorism (ISIS/Al Qaeda) with the religion of Islam, because the word Islam is in ISIS, you're a fucking window licker.
Muslim/Islam =/= ISIS/Al Qaeda
Correlating the two is like saying:
Catholic = IRA
Christian = KKK or LRA (Uganda)
The fundamentalist or extremists of any one group/religion are not representative of the whole.
Woah! I never said that ISIS= Muslim/Islam..... All I said was that the word Islam is in ISIS, so it's stupid to think that there are no Muslims in ISIS when basically every member of these middle eastern terrorist networks are Muslims....

Sorry, my bad.
I would agree that most middle eastern terrorist groups are fundamentalist/extremist Muslims. It's just unfortunate that Islam and terrorism often have such a close connection.
I think it's really important to remember in these discussions that here are far more moderate Muslims that extremists who are just as outraged at the actions of ISIS/Al Qaeda/etc. as the rest of America/Canada/other western countries.

Are you trying to imply that everyone muslim in the world isn't a piece of shit terrorist motherfucker trying to take over the world?
For some reason, ISIS is having a much easier time convincing young western Muslims to take up 'the cause' than the KKK, or AN, is having convincing young western Christians to take up racism.
Oh wait, Christianity is not stuck in the middle ages, despite some attempts at it. You will find very few Christians who think the church (or their church) needs to go back to its pre-Westphalian style; and groups who argue for a return to 'fundamental' Christianity find themselves gaining less and less traction. Yet, ISIS is convincing millions of Muslims that they should be getting back to the old school ways - minus the sciences and shit.
whatever, If ISIS can convince all the fuck nuts to gather into a nice place with minimal micro terrain where we can effectively cluster bomb the fuck out of them - good on em.
getting back to the CIA's actions - Americans involved in implementing foreign policy need to hold themselves to a higher standard. But I sure hope they whispered "Insha' Allah motherfucker" into the shitheads ear as they pumped hummus and camel piss up their butts.
Nobody has made a thread because if you needed a report to tell you that all this was going on, well then you aren't the brightest person to begin with. Nobody was complaining when the World Trade Center was a pile of smoking rubble. Also, America is the only country dumb enough to allow liberal hippies to beat them into airing their dirty laundry for the whole world to see. This is overkill, and only moves us backwards.
Phil-X-Id post a few hundred videos of muslim extremists beheading civilians but its not worth the ban.
Rather be tortured under the american chain of command in a world class facility then in some cave naked and cold with my parents threatened daily, forcing me to make videos swearing allegiance to them
I think the main issue as to why there are many angry over this, is because America is held to a higher standard as to how we treat our POWs over how another nations or militant groups would. We preach how people shouldn't ever be tortured, when low and behold, we are using the same methods. Now China and North Korea wants us to apologize for our hypocritical ways.
Another issue here is, studies show that torture is not a good way of getting intel, and it could potentially harm - for lack of a better word - "innocent" people.
We have the means and interrogation ways of getting solid intel that doesn't involve torturing another person. Why we aren't using those methods more... I don't know.

Because people think oh so clearly in those situations. And it wasn't like the news wasn't blasting it along with the fuck em all sentiment.
And you gotta love the idea that having any idea what the hell goes on in your government is a terrible idea and will only help the terrorists. Because governments are inherently good and all that.
Of the people, by the people, and for the people... surrrrreeeeeee
It seems easy to justify torture by saying that terrorists would commit the same acts against Americans if given the chance - and they would, but it's difficult for US foreign policy to be taken seriously if we are the defenders of freedom and a democratic legal process yet we torture citizens of other sovereign states.
My feelings: If the CIA had been able to keep the tortures a secret, I feel that the benefits gained outweigh the many, many downsides. Unfortunately, we cannot continue these acts once the world knows; or, at least, we cannot allow them to know that we torture known terrorists.
.frenchyIt's to save damn American lives your ignorant shithead.
Are you saying that the wellbeing of some dick head from America is somehow more valuable than the wellbeing of some dick head from the middle east?
Besides, last I checked the U.S. was founded on "terrorism" so that whiny assholes like us could keep driving our obscenely-sized SUVs and shop at colossal megacorporations dedicated to pumping out disposable crap for us to buy so that on a couple nights of the year we can forget for a moment that deep down we hate ourselves.
Of course we are. The patriot act because freedom and stuff. And any bitch ass countries around the world that don't like what we're doing are just jealous of how free we are.
lIllIAre you saying that the wellbeing of some dick head from America is somehow more valuable than the wellbeing of some dick head from the middle east?

-er, I mean, God bless America! Us and Them, etc.
Where do you get "dick head" from? I'm talking about saving innocent American lives, you dumbass troll.
You sounds like a total little bitch in your post complaining about SUV's and corporations, then mocking God bless America.
You know what, you don't have to love America. Just don't live here and do your own damn thing, hell go join ISIS if you're gonna piss and moan about the USA and get all butt hurt about mega corporations... Nobody's stoppin' ya. Anti-America shit-stains like you are horrible.
UtardI challenge any one of you who supports state-sanctioned torture to show me a single example of torture by US agents in the "War on Terror" that produced unique, reliable, and actionable information that was used to save lives.
right because thats not classified information or anything.
trust me there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes with our country. I am lucky and unlucky at the same time getting to see this shit with my level of security clearance. and that is only information that pertains to my job.
i can guarantee you there was information gathered from torture. and I can also say that they will not be releasing that information anytime soon.
theabortionatorBecause people think oh so clearly in those situations. And it wasn't like the news wasn't blasting it along with the fuck em all sentiment.

If you're friend got killed by some angry terrorist because of this release you'd change your tune real quick. It's that sentiment you have that's bringing us down. If you need to watch abc news report in order to know this is going on, then you are naive. There's so much nasty shit you will never know about, and that's fine with me. You're a random citizen working in terrain parks. Why the fuck do you need to know what's done behind the scenes? The world isn't fucking Whoville and dapple dandy. It runs off money and military power. I'm sorry.
Plus, it's already been admitted, and apologized for. This just adds to the radicals' cause. I just hate the current young sentiment on anything political. You guys want to tie our government's hands behind their back and then complain of inaction.
"Wahhhhh, inequality in a foreign country! Do something politicians! Wahhhhh, don't put boots on the ground! Fuck you! Wahhhhhh, all you politicians do is talk at summits and shit while people die. Wahhhhhh, you killed people?" - current fuckheads talking about the U.S.

You know nothing about me, and you're post is bad to the point where I don't even feel it deserves a response.

I wish you could go over there and see the way those "people" look at us. women and children look at you with fucking evil in their eyes. you know that if they had the gun in their hands you would have been dead a long time ago. In my opinion this was one thing that i actually saw displayed accurately in a movie, if you watch the scene in Lone Survivor and see the younger mans eyes. it is really accurate, they want to kill us.
I am not some psycho who wants people dead, or tortured, however when you see someone look at you like that you wont care what happens to them so long as you leave on that plane breathing.

Ah, nothing like a vague and baseless claim by one of the most evil people to be in political power. Such proof, many conclusions.
you know I don't think the CIA really gives a shit if they lie to the white house or not. They know that we need them so it's not like we're seriously going to punish them right? Who cares if we torture em. We can't just get rid of the CIA and the NSA. They can really do whatever the hell they want.
