I agree, I'm from the older generation when we had to either build a booter into some deep pow and we'd get maybe 10 hits before it was worn out, or sack up and learn in the park, now it's just so easy with airbags, do it twice on the bag and then take it to the snow, theres no guess work or anticipation.

On the other hand OP, the airbag can hurt if you really fuck something up but not nearly as bad as a park landing. You can pretty much try anything you want and it won't hurt as long as you have a ballpark idea of what your doing. The bag setup is important as well. Some places can fuck it up royally, small jump, bag right next to the takeoff, limiting speed on the inrun and such.

Fuck airbags. Tossed flat 7 and cork 7, they both hurt like hell because I went straight to my feet. Should've just sacked up and tossed on snow.

see this is something that somewhat negates some people's snobbery about air bags. really, some skiers have the fortune of living in a place where they can build a jump into pow that is every bit as non-dangerous and forgiving as an air bag.

i certainly don't want the sport taken over by a bunch of tools doing everything on water ramps or air bags and then taking it methodically to snow, it's clearly sort of lame. but hell, i grew up on the east and i waited til i had the good fortune of finding a snow drift of a landing to build a jump into to try my first flips. are we really going to start applying some metric to how legit something is due to how dangerous is was to learn it?

like i said, i dont want to see it become an integral part of skiing, but air bags are awesome to try a trick on you feel pretty confident about but want to test out without consequences first

this varies a lot bag to bag. the one ive hit, dude, people were landing on their necks doubled over scorpion style and not feeling one iota of pain

Yeah i mean really in a reply to everybody is that I really cant afford to hurt myself. Being its my senior year and I play basketball I try to stay injury free as much as possible. And for me, anything more than a backflip on skis is uncharted territory for me. For me, its risk vs. reward.
Sure, I loved tossing my first backflips into deep snow and then bringing it to snow, but I think for a first time try and not being able to get hurt it makes sense for me.
