Taking next semester off to ski and travel

I finally decided today that I need to leave Syracuse University after this semester and drive out west to ski and travel. Has anyone done anything similar? If so, any tips to make this successful and on a small budget? I plan on couchsurfing and living out of my car. Advice is appreciated! Thanks

Your biggest strength is that you've got NS.
Use it to sort out local conditions, find people to show you around, floors to sleep on, and the knowledge to do it cheaply. Nothing like making this website into the actual community of people that it is, and then going skiing with them.
If you head through Montana, rattle my cage.

Good for you man, that's awesome. After I graduated high school, I took 2 years off before college to ski. My biggest piece of advice is to be really disciplined when it comes to saving money. I worked my ass off during the summer to pay for passes and other expenses and the one thing you have to remember is that you can't splurge on anything. That 15 dollars you want to use for a burger at the lodge can feed you for 3 days if you do it right. Be prepared to eat a lot of ramen, hotdogs, and any canned goods you can find in dumpsters if you're willing to go that far to eat. Also, I didn't work at all during the winter, so it might be easier for you in terms of cash if you are. Overall, just budget as much as you can
