Skiing vs Snowboarding

Which is harder to master? It seems like the majority of snowboarders at my mountain have a smoother time on the rails than the skiers. Does that mean the skiers suck (myself included) or does it mean snowboarding just looks cooler and less forced on rails? This is just generally speaking because pretty much any decent park rat/pro looks clean and controlled on rails.
