A good part, undoubtedly. Deserved Rookie Skier over Magnus at IF3? Hell no. Although you can't compare a full BC part to a full street offering, Magnus dropped one of the hardest street parts of all time. And that's only including his Less segment, Finess is a whole different story altogether. Sure, McNutt had an an overall strong BC part, but not even close to Magnus's which was definitely progressing urban skiing.

It's all good though. While McNutt is probably just chilling and getting a slow start for his season, Magnus is already out stacking footage. Dude is probably even more motivated then ever before to get another heavy segment done this year to follow up on last years.

I'm probably going to get some hate for this on NS, but I will say it anyway.

I respect a skier that can throw stuff and be fluid on pillows and BC lines a whole hell of a lot more than I do someone that can do a sick street segment.



Please don't get me wrong, urban is awesome, fun and a blast to watch. The title of the award WAS Rookie SKIER though. I consider being comfortable in pow makes you a better skier than if you are comfortable on urban rails.


Maybe I'm wrong though, please let me know if I'm missing something. I always like to hear all sides to a story.

Urban skiers are a dime a dozen these days. We need more skiers like McNutt. It's crazy how little switch skiing in the backcountry has progressed since Pep's 1242 segment. This dude seems to be changing that....

apples to oranges, magnus is hands down one of the sickest jib skiers in the game and will drop many more heavy segments to come, nick also threw down arguably the best BC jump n jib segment of the year. Both dudes are on top and i doubt either of them are tripping over something as trivial as a IF3 award

You guys are ridiculous is how quickly you forget. To say that nothing has progressed between pep and mcnutt is just idiotic. Charlie Ager off the top of my head. Geez.

Very truthful response form THC right here. Either way, felt like putting it out there. As I previously said it was definitely McNutt's strongest offering, more so then his Co-Lab even. I'm probably just more partial to urban segments opposed to BC ones haha. Either way, Magnus goes hard as heck, and McNutt had a good segment.

I think the key part is how the two are compared. As you folks said, its like comparing apples to oranges. How can you judge rails to pillows? Maybe in the future two separate category's should be added? Not really sure if it's worth it, but it just seems futile comparing two completely different types of skiing.

I didn't say nothing has progressed. Read my post again. I said it is crazy how little things have progressed. I was actually thinking about Ager and similar skiers when I wrote that. When you think about skiers like Ager who have pushed the envelope, they haven't pushed it by much. It's been over 10 years since 1242. Think about how far urban has come in those years. Sure, it's not a fair comparison, but it's still pretty telling. That was more or less the first segment with legit switch landings off of sizable hits in the backcountry. If you watch Less, 10+ years later, nothing really blows away Pep's unnatural 5 into powder. Maybe there are just limits on what you can do switch in the backcountry, but I don't think that's the case. I think there is just less interest in the backcountry, maybe because it's not worth the investment for film crews when you could film urban or do a park shoot with more reliability and perhaps less cost. You don't agree? I would honestly be curious to know where you think I've got it wrong. From my vantage point, the last 10 years have been incredible for urban and park, but dismal for backcountry, and I see the rise of urban and park coming at the expense of backcountry. Skiers have met or surpassed snowboarder pretty much everywhere except the backcountry--We don't have our own Art of Flight yet.

I was initially against such a melodramatic song but when you listen to the lyrics and appreciate the struggle it took to get to this point it works great.
For me it's especially pleasing to watch because I logged hundreds of hours of raw footy for tgr last winter. While there was a ton of shit footage to sort through, Sir Nutt always kept the gig fresh. Hopefully we get a 'b' roll at some point too. I know there's plenty of film left to fill it up.
And congrats to the TGR crew for taking home a well-deserved best picture award at iF3 and Powder Video Awards. This year's film had it all because a massive crew came together to make it happen.

first, i did read your second post and you did correct yourself and i respect that but it technically is mcnutt's debut in a major ski companies film so "Rookie" is correct. but i hate to say it the skill displayed over a multitude different types of skiing of in mcnutt's segment far out way those in magnus's part. urban skiing is incredibly difficult, but some of the shit McNutt threw in the bc is actually inhuman not to mention his form is spot on the whole time which adds alot to the quality of his seg.

ugh yeah when i heard what song they used i lost interest but had to tell myself "now, now, that's not fair, watch the segment." and im happy i did, but jesus guys come on my dad could pick a less played out song.

dude is so sick though holy fuck. though i think i remember being even more blown away by his co lab..?
