I'm about to finish my first semester at the University of Utah, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to move out here from PA. Some reasons why:
- inexpensive, and it's easy to gain residency provided you're cool with only leaving the state for 29 days your first year here
- if you do well in high school, you can probably get a decent amount of money from the University to make it even cheaper
- our business school is great and getting better (not sure about other schools/programs here)
- 30 minutes from most ski areas
- got my Brighton pass for $450 and I usually drive, but the bus is free with your pass
- people are nice, parties aren't too hard to find, and the herb is cheap
- if you plan on moving off campus like I do, I hear that living expenses here are pretty low

University of Utah or Westminster College. Both are in Salt Lake and like 20 mins from Park City, Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, Etc.

I also heard that Boulder is sick because the parties are ridiculous. Only thing is that skiing is 2 hours away. So far I haven't experienced much inversion on campus, but you can see it in the city from time to time. Then again, I've only been here for a semester so it could get worse later in the winter.

There are a million compromises I would make for skiing but living in salt lake is not one of them.

Forreal though, try and visit some of the colleges and find out what you like for yourself. There are only so many good colleges with top notch skiing nearby, you'll figure out real quick how much you like driving on i70 from boulder to the mountains or breathing in smog in slc. And don't forget places back east like middlebury and uvm, you can still find fresh pow in the trees back east long after it would've been skied out at alta.

Western Washington, you're only about an hour and a half outside of Mt. Baker, some of the best snow in the state. And its a sweet little college town up in Bellingham.

Given it's in the Midwest.. I go to NMU and I'm loving it here. Marquette mountain is 5/10minutes away and had a pretty decent park. Also Mt. Bohemia is a couple hours away with great pow. Great people as well, and inexpensive school.

Dartmouth is by far the best combo of high level skiing and crazy high level education. Not many people bring it up, but it's close to some damn good VT resorts. Not to mention it's not a bad college to attend...

Utah or Montana would probably be best for skiing. Don't go anywhere in Colorado , unless you want to go to Colorado Mountain College which is in Breck but is a joke of a school. I70 is a complete shitshow pretty much 24/7 during the winter, people go full retard when they see a single snowflake.

Westminster, it's in SLC but 25 min from Park City by highway. They don't do school on Fridays. They also have buses that go to the mountains.

Couple comments on this...

They don't check if you've left the 29 days.. I was gone about 60 and still got residency... just take a bullshit class during the summer

If you want to do anything Med related, Utah is a fantastic school

The ski bus is the only public transportation that IS NOT free for U students... I think its $4 a day.. still cheap.

The inversion sucks... its disgusting, but it only gets bad when we don't have a storm for a couple weeks... when storms roll in every 4 or 5 days it never gets too bad

I heard the bus to Brighton is free with your pass, but it doesn't start until Dec 7. I'm stoked to hear they don't care about days out of state though.

Oh really? I hadn't heard that. Well then if you want to go up LCC then that one you have to pay for!

Middlebury College: ranked #7 in the country, hella chyll, has its own ski mountain, hour from killy and sugarbush, and has a jterm where you can ski all january

just make sure you're cool being in the library 6-8 hours a day
