Bah Humbug my ass. From my experience, the people I know that dislike Christmas really dislike it. Why?

How could you hate such a special time of year? You get to spend time with your loved ones, lights everywhere, everyone is in a great mood(after the Christmas shopping is done),the smell of pine tree when you walk in your house, glistening presents underneath the tree, AND it pretty much marks the beginning of the core of our ski season! Maybe they are going through something we don't know about, but isn't that more of a reason to try to celebrate and be cheerful?

So to all the Christmas haters out there, I'm sorry you hate it, and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

It's really easy for people to dislike the holidays if it holds bad memories for them.

If someone came from a broken home, or was very poor, the holidays may be a harsh reminder of what things used to be like.

My wife's father passed away last year on Dec 22. She's not looking forward to Christmas.

I'm indifferent to Christmas until Christmas Eve.

To me there is way to much holiday everything way to early. It's a sensory overload. Red and green everywhere, christmas music that never stops playing, shopping lists that never end. I keep all my Christmas cheer bottled up until it is actually Christmas, otherwise it would be November 15th and i'd already be sick of Christmas.

You like Christmas because you get to spend it with loved ones, get lots of presents, and go skiing. For some people it's a reminder that they don't have loved ones, presents, or the luxuries to do things like skiing

The fact that Christmas is so materialistic drives me absolutely crazy. It should be about getting together with friends and family. Not what you're going to get as a gift.

I fucking HATE this time of the year especially christmas. I grew up in a fucked up family father passed away. Maybe it sounds shallow but I never spent any ttime with any of my family during the holidays and when we did it was constant arguing and shit talking. Not to mention I literally have never gotten a single gift for any holiday from my family growing up. I hated seeing kids with new xboxes, clothes, whatever and I didn't have shit. Granted im 25 now so thats in the past but still...growing up fuck the holidays

I agree, I don't like how materialistic Christmas has become. Most of society has lost the real meaning and spirit of Christmas.

Also, I'm not trying to offend or upset anyone I'm just trying to understand both sides of it. If you haven't had much of a Christmas past or tradition, try and start one up. This time of year doesn't have to be the same for you, make something positive out of it this year.

I'm not saying he should view it that way, it's simply an answer to his question of how anyone could hate Christmas. Personally I think Christmas is way too commercialized, but so is everything else these days and the core traditions of family togetherness and celebration are still very present

I'm not a big fan of christmas. It's a trade off. It's nice to see family but sometimes it isn't. Gathering around with 20+ religious folks for the whole day and listening to the conversations which in many times go down the route of straight up ignorant with their sometimes racist and homophobic viewpoints. It's lovely.

It's pretty awkward imo. I used to get pretty drunk just to survive it. Not sure what I'm going to do this year without being able to drink.

Opted out of gifts a few years ago and that's been great. Took a lot of the bullshit stress away. Not that it still isn't stressful but it's way more survivable.

Also I hate christmas music. And everyone playing that shit after halloween till christmas blows.

If I was going to pick a holiday to see family I'd pick thanksgiving > christmas.

When I worked at gore I got paid double time to work it though. That was pretty rad. Nobody in the park and making twice as much money? Sign me the fuck up.

Meh, I grew up in family who celebrated Christmas and Hanukkah, and my birthday is the in the first week of January so naturally as a Kid I fucking loved the holiday season. Though I've grown up and I don't really care for the material parts of it anymore, the more visceral parts of the season I still love (like taking a carriage ride downtown, spending time with family, skiing on Christmas Morning etc.)

But on the other hand I absolutely hate how early it starts, like seeing Christmas commercials the day after Halloween is terrible. Also Christmas music sucks but that's just because every time I work I have to listen to it for 8 hours.

You don't get it.

What if the memories you had of Christmas was wondering how much your father was going to drink and if he was going to beat on you or not? Is he going to through the Christmas tree out the window on Christmas Eve again? Are the cops going to show up this year?

Christmas isn't a happy time for everyone.
