So, my pass got clipped on at Alta today.. read on.

Disclaimer: this might be kind of long... sorry.
So, today sucked nuts. I was up at Alta, enjoying my second run down the mountain, when I approach the final stretch to the lift. I was ripping down this groomer, but I was in total control. I see this old, butthole out-of-towner up ahead of me. (I am positive that he was some moron gaper tourist, judging by the way he was dressed, and the way he skied). This guy was completely oblivious to all uphill traffic... he was making these huge ass, slow turns down the middle of the run. I stayed high and right of this guy, so that I wouldn't hit him. I passed him, with about a pole length and a half of distance between us... well, I guess this dick gets all spooked and yells out 'FUCK YOU!' to me.
So, I stopped, and silently said the same to him.. via my middle fingers. I gave him the double birdie, and skied off, not thinking much of the situation.

I get down to the Collin's lift, and this ski patrol rolls up to me asked me if I flipped a guy off. I was not about to get into a shouting match with him, and this ass clown tourist, over something that was so petty and insignificant. So, I lied and said 'No... it wasn't me' ( I admit this wasn't the smartest thing I could have done, but I wanted to minimize the situation, and just get back to enjoying my day).

So, I ride back up the lift, and when I get off, this other ski patrol with a walkie talkie flags me down, rolls up, and clips my pass! He then proceeded to bitch me out for flipping the guy off, and then lying about it. I gave him my side of the story, and he then gives me an excellent explanation of how much they value their local clientelle by saying: 'well, these tourist middle aged intermediate skiers are what keep us in business..not you season passholders!'
I was pissed, but kept my tone in check, cause the dude had my pass, and asked how I could get it back. He took me down to the office, and said I could take up the situation with his boss.

Turns out his boss was the guy that I had lied to originally (oh boy). So, this guy lectures me, and tells me that my pass was the first that they have clipped this season, and that if I want it back, I would have to go grovel to the Alta general manager after a week or so, and MAYBE I will get it back.

So, here is what I have learned after losing my lift privileges for my only week off of school/work:

1. Alta's Patrol rivals the Nazi Gestapos of WW2.
2. Tourists suck disgustingly.
3. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride, and take it up the hole, especially when your season pass is at stake.

like you said you should leave your ego in the car when you go talk to the manager and not bring in this thread, but after you meet him and hopefully get your pass back you could always just send it in later.

ha thats the stupidest reason ever for pulling a pass. if they pulled passes for swearing at stupid people here at bristol mountain, then half the regular park skiers would be gone

I got my pass back yesterday!! I had to wait around for 2.5 hours to talk to the General Manager, but ultimately, i got it back. I am on their 'shit list' now though.

ski with ur pass in ur pocket that way they cant get to it, and refuse to give up ur pass if they ask for it, and if they clip it tell them u lost it and get a new one that isnt clipped

however, i did do that to some chick on a snowboard, and she proceeded to fall down in front of me...that kinda sucked

I think snowbirds patrollers are way cooler, around the 3rd day of season this year me and my homey are skiing and my friend is flying does a 180's off a roller and continues to bomb the mountain fullspeed switch. Nails some old guy in his blindspot compelte yardsale. Patroller sees the whole thing. This guy is laying into my friend calling him a fucking asshole blah blah asshole fuck you asshole. for a few minutes while he collects his gear. Once the old guy skis off the patroller says to us 'those guys think they own this mountain' I was like What the fuck? It was totally my friends fault and the patroller took our side it was really weird.

I had my pass pulled a couple of season ago. We skied the backside of the mountain when it was closed. We were hiking out when a snowmobile pulled up, 'passes please'. We just handed them over and were polite while they lectured us (though they seemed kinda stoke that we poached 6ft of fresh). I aske how i could get my pass back. The head patroller told me we could set up a meeting. I came but he was busy, so he lectured me for a minute over the phone, and told me where i could pick up my pass. Apparently i'm on a list for the greater tahoe area, but i'm pretty sure that doesn't exist.

I gotta say this whenever you pass within 2 meters of someone at high speed then you cant say sshit about nothing. pass a bit wider next time man and your troubles would never exist.

Good to hear you got your pass back but the downhill skier always has the right of way cause they dont have eyes in the backof their heads.

when you get your pass back, and if you happen to see the gay tourist guy again, or some other idiot doin the same thing, just make sure u can get to your car real fast, then fly by him close enough that you could reach out and touch him. then book it to ur car. but on a serious note...that sux dude, gl getting ur pass back

Haing read a bunch of this, I agree its BS that you got shit to the extent you did. A reminder of the skiers code to both of you about being considerate etc would've been enough I'd have thought.

Problem is though, that this kinda 'Locals Rule' thing, seems to have become a bit of a problem for Alta in the past couple of seasons. Not saying that is what you were intending, but the whole 'Alta Pain Train' shit up on the Hight T and in lift lines, whilst mostly a joke between locals and very rarely actually towards day skiers, is starting to have a negative effect on the resort. You are on the harsh side of their attempt to put a stop to it by the sound of things.

I guess alls well that ends well though. But yeah, go for a new pass. Claim you lost it, even if they actually do charge the $10 or whatever for admin fees, it still means that if you have to show it on the mtn for any reason, you not so likely to immediately be on the end of shit. It'll help to diffuse anything, as there will be no preconceived ideas of you with a fresh, unclipped pass

Hate you say it but you are probably in the wrong here...

Word of advice, don't ever argue that point with a ski patroler. Item two in the skiers responsiblity code states: People in front of you have the right of way. It is your job to avoid them.

Basicly people in front of you can do what ever the hell they want with total disregard for who ever is up the hill... I mean why should it be any different you don't have eyes in the back of your head, skiing down the hill trying to look back up over your shoulder would only cause more accidents for most people.

You must yeild the right of way to the down hill skier.

A poles length and a half isn't very far. My guess is the patroller saw you go blowing past this guy, then stop and give him the double birds. Obviously he didn't hear him yell fuck you at you... not that it should matter, that old man had every right to yell that at you.

I believe you were maching it like me or anyone else here does.... but

you cant pass within 3 feet of a guy at 35mph or faster and think he wont be pissed off.

When you give respect you get respect. Best to tell the P.T. the truth and that you shouldve slowed down and will in the future even if its total BS.

If we want sking to grow then we cant all be fuckwits who dont respect other people. everyone has the right to be on a regular run and not have some kid come barreling into them from behind.

Maybe we should all copy and paste your story, email it to management at Alta and say that passholders actually are importnat and that if you don't get your pass back we'll never come to Alta....worth a shot, give us an email address and i'll send one off for you

Anyway the point of the story isn't whether he was right or wrong but the way anagement blatently told him they weren't interested in local season passholders, they may think that but shouldn't go round spraying it

I wish that everyone on the hill was driving a car (can't possibly happen). I can't make a turn with out checking my blind spot. If every one was like that there would be no accidents like the one in this thread. But then gezeers(sp) don't check there blind spots when they are driving anyway.

once you entered a trail and youve checked above and its clear then the people above you must yeild.

I dont think he got his pass clipped for flipping the bird. He got it for lying. That thus shows the utter contempt for the patrol and other people who have the same right to use the resort. in the heat of the talks the patroller might have been pretty pissed and said something that they didnt really mean. Alta lives and breeds passholders.

If you lie to your mates and they catch you youll get the cold shoulder huge. At other mountains the first clipping is 2 weeks so count your blessings.

Sucks man. I don't think I've ever heard of someone's season pass getting clipped at Alta for things other than poaching. You got unlucky there. I think if you go to talk to the GM in a mature way and tell him what happened, maybe apologize, you'll get it back. I think some people at Alta feels a little threatened by the new wave of steeze, I'm not surprised you weren't cut much slack.
