U will get it. Watch the end of the rail, or a bit ahead of it, and keep your ballance. My first rails I was the same way. I could not walk for 2 days after my first rail runs haha. Stick with it, you'll get it. If you want some good practice. Take your skis off and slide the rail with your boots on. It will slide way faster, and will help you with your balance. Hope this helps and keep with it.

Look at the end of the rail like that other buy said, but it is also very important to keep ur shoulders parallel (sp) to the rail. This way you will not turn off the rail prematurely.

I greased my first rail. Then the next 40 times, I fell and bloodied up my lip/nose pretty badly a few times.

progress.. thats the key .. start small. I suggest bending your knees alot and doing a little pop but try to stay low on the rail and look at the end of the rail. try to keep your sholders facing down the rail and try and try again.

no iCANDY, keeping your should DOWN the rail will pull u off (your legs will follow ur torso becuase it is heavier), i dont know if you meant parallel but yeah keep em parallel.

just practice sliding boxes, once u get comfortable on them and get the feeling, try something smaller, until u can slide rails with ease

yesterday was my second day of rails. Didnt really get too many bruises just trying to slide them but killed my self trying switch on. I got to the point of doing 270 off already and slid every rail at my mountain(not saying much though)

my problem is getting onto the rail. theres no gaps in between the ramp and rail where i am, so would it be better to pop, or just slide on?

when I first did rails I did in a backyard setup and threw a bunch of snow around the rail. That way when I fell I had something nice to land on.

rails are actually way easier than i thought....start on something quite wide, thats more important than size-it can be massive as long as its wide and you just swallow your fear its so easy...i was greasing 20 footer flats after 2 hrs

definitely don't lean back. that's the first thing i did, and i started on this little no-more-than 5 feet long thingy. i never leaned back again. whatever rail it is, i'd much rather lean forward and eat shit than lean back.

Hey for rails do u have to slide with pressure to the mountain side of the ski edge?

someone told me that it's like running and jumping onto a skateboard that will roll, because rails are so slippery. After that, it was alot easier. Jump up on and stay centered don't push your feet out in front at all like when you hockey stop. Or you might wind up with the tailbone condition too.

Hip injuries are also common on rails! ITs basically just a feel thing these tips will help but u will still fight the urge to stay forward until u actually practice the rails just go out there and ski!!

it took me 3 tries to do my first box and 5 tries to slide my first rail, but all the bails were cuz of leaning back, and landing on my hip/ass

the best way to learn, is first on a box (get the stance right, learn to keep your weight centered), then take it to a rail, and work on balance. the big thing is to keep your feet apart. and to the guy who asked what edges you slide on, well, you shouldnt really be on your edge, but most of the weight is on your inside edge. i greased my first rail (a down rail, real small) first try. then i tried a up rail, and slipped out, landed on my ass, and couldnt ski for the rest of the day.

I'm still working on dialing in all my rails. The big thing that everybody said is to keep your wait down hill. It's a little intimidating because you will worry about falling forward on your face, but you won't because the rest of your body is also moving forward.

Yeah, I haven't fallen forward before, but that would scare me shitless. Falling forward can = face to rail.

ive never fallen on a rail, only popped off early, but today, i was trying to slide this wide rail/narrow box at tremblant, and i just leaned back or something cuz i fell onto my hip, the off the rail which was like four feet tall, hitting my knee on it on the way down, then i stuck out my hand to stop from hitting the ice head first, and ended up spraining my wrist. good times.

^^ That makes me feel a lot better because I was getting really frustrated today. It doesn't help that our hill has no lips up to any of the rails which makes it a pain in the ass on anything that kinks up.

I think rails are a lot easier than a lot of people think. They get into your head and you psyche yourself out. I've been sliding boxes for a few years now, but just did my first rail tonight. I just hauled ass at it, and kept my weight forward. It was mad easy. I fell my first time, but nailed it the next 7 times. No problem, just take a lot of speed and keep your legs spread apart far enough.

you gotta commit to it. if you pussy out at the last minute or halfway through, you're gonna fall. look at the end of the rail and visualize youself sliding it. i think someone said it before, but it's kinda like running and jumping onto a skateboard.
