Where to get rails

actually hit a local university and check with their departments of architecture and engineering. they have student's doing random projects all the time with things like that kicking around. guarantee you can find large scraps of rail-like metals and piping kicking around. we did that years ago for a rail jam and they actually had a flat rail in one of their facilities that they just let us use. might be worth a shot to shoot out a few emails. how about a local trade college?

construction yards (ask/pay them to cut up scraps, etc), the local ''dump'', go to the local wood place and buy the pvc yourself, buy the corrugated, home depot, lowes, etc

Very good advice, we did steel bridge competition and every year we would order new materials and throw out our old bridge and its scraps. Would be great material for building rails.

Building your own PVC rails would work well. They aren't the prettiest things by any means, but that shit slides like Vaseline.

It's a tough one. Do you have a boneyard at your mountain? See if you can find anything that can be repurposed. IF there's a scrap yard around check it out and see what you can find. Maybe some cheap tanks etc. Put out some feelers in the community. Make it known that it's stuff for the kids to do. People are always down to help out kid/the local community.

If needed you might be able to get some businesses to toss in some money. Steel isn't cheap but if you can get SOME money coming in you can do some decent stuff with it.

Maybe have a rail jam at your hill. Have the entry fee go directly to building new features. Print up a ton of flyers and make it clear that the $10 or whatever is all going toward building new rails. IF you have local shops see if they're down to sponsor it with some product. Let them know that it's going to help build new rails and they'd probably be extra down to support it.

If you have a separate park lift of a hike park at the start of the season you could do the same thing with tickets for that. Maybe just one day or maybe $5 of each ticket goes toward rails for a few weeks.

Idk. If you're just doing rails they're fairly affordable if you can get some loot.

Also as mentioned above pretty much hit anybody and everyone up for scrap. Even short pieces for legs, sheet metal to cap the ends. Anything helps. I scavenged some old bed frames at my hill to mount the skirting on.
