Colorado Cat Skiing | Newschoolers Trip

This thread will be used to gauge interest in an official NS cat skiing trip in Colorado.

Idea: Wrangle up at least ten people interested in a Newschoolers cat skiing trip. Film the trip, make a small edit. ????. Profit.

Location: Either Steamboat Powdercats or Silverton Powdercats. Nothing is set in stone and I'm totally open to suggestion. If anyone has experience with Colorado cat operations, your input would be appreciated.

When: Sometime between late December to Mid January. Nothing is planned yet, but assuming this trip is successful I would be very willing to organize another.

Cost: Between 350$ and 400$, depending on company and number of participants. Cat skiing aint free, but renting a whole cat is significantly cheaper than reserving an individual seat.

Who: Anyone with the means and motivation is welcome.

I've already spoken with Mr.Bishop about this, and he's behind the idea. If there is enough interest for this to be feasible, we'll make it an official NS outing. PM me if you're interested, or send me an email Collin.W.Davenport@gmail.com.

I would absolutely be interested in either Silverton or Irwin. Irwin is one valley over from Crested Butte but gets like 500 inches of snow a year. Always wanted to go.

I definitely considered both of those! No plans have been finalized with the cat companies yet, so it would totally be possible to do either one of those. I've heard nothing but great things about Irwin!

Although retallack is on my bucket list, it's a bit far for a simple weekend trip. That being said, I would do some despicable to ski out there.

I went skiing with Steamboat Powdercats last season and it was amazing, even without much fresh snow. This would be awesome if it actually ended up happening.

It can totally happen! I'll do all the logistic work, I just need enough people to commit. I'll even go so far as to get food and beer for everyone, on my own dime, just because I'm convinced that this kind of trip would be awesome as fuck.

Requirements: have avy knowledge and background. Ski with a designated member to judge how dope their skills are for at least one day.

Hmmm. Would it be open to someone like me who doesn't have any avy background, but is 100% confident in their skiing ability/can ski with ease anywhere on the mountain?

It's a guided cat trip, you do not need avy training for it. They should not be taking you anywhere with any significant slide risk. Not that it doesn't hurt to have, mind you.

Correct. You just have to be able to prove you're a strong skier outside the park.

How long are you thinking? Is this for a day and a night or longer? I never have a great idea when I'll be off work but early-mid January should be a good bet for me

Do you know of any decent cat skiing around Calgary/Banff? Could be a good time to get some folks together for a day or something.
