At the mountain I ski at the park crew is pretty shitty. We had to put in rails our selves and fix other Today. Does this happen to anyone else At other mountains?
Whoa dude thats jacked up. over here at winter park the crew is pretty good. they try and keep the ramps clean and the rails are always in straight. but they get in they way a bunch but i dont really mind it
The park crew at my home hill sets up a great park but doesn't maintain it and it just goes to shit. So much potential here, but park crew sits in their cabin at the top of the hill and smokes weed all day. Nothing ever gets changed up, its just blah. Hopefully this year they do a better job.
Smaller mountains do suffer from a lack of $ for park crews. The best thing you can do is organize a volunteer park crew with the mountain and express the need for better funding for park.
Or move to a place that has a solid park. Your move OP.
I've never seen them but everything is always perfectly maintained, I suspect that the resort has struck some deal with some indigos Hobbit like people that in exchange for maintaining the rails they didn't get bulldozered off their native lands.
I got yelled at for raking some takeoff at mt jore in 09. I worked there the seasons before but moved on because it was lame. I paid to ride and just wanted to hit takeoffs that weren't rutted to shit.
As far as having a park crew that's shitty. There are lots of mountains out there that have crews that don't really kill it. Things have gotten a ton better in recent years but there are still some places slacking. Also a ton of places that could be better. If you're interested, talk to the mountain about getting on the park crew. It's not everyones jam but if you're into that sort of thing it could be a good opportunity. Also if this is the only hill you really ride, you could get a pass, possibly make some money, and get to make stuff better so you get to ride a better park.
There's something about shredding features you put a bunch of time in. Park crew can be a tough gig to get into a lot of places so if you're mountain is slacking, you're a local, and are gonna be around there for a few years it might not be bad to try and get involved.
Even without any new features it's amazing how much just setting things up decent and maintaining them can transform a park from ghetto to epic. Also if you get on the crew you can hassle for funds to build/buy new features and have a say in what those features are.
Idk what you're into but I just figured I'd throw out the suggestion in case you were. This is season 10 for me and I'll be working in the parks till I'm dead.
Peek'n Peak's park crew is on point. So chill, keeps their park pretty, tells the gaper parents to gtfo the knuckle, and all in all are just good guys. Mostly boarders, but have a ton of respect for skiers. Oh, and they take suggestions and will actually think about them (unless they're ridiculous, but even then your wish might come true).
