Molding Full Tilt Liners Yourself

So you just bought new boots with a really nice customizable liner. Why would you want to cut corners on getting the most out of the most important part of your gear set up? Any of the do-it-at-home tricks won't work nearly as well as having it properly done by a shop. Do yourself a favor and get it done there- your feet will thank you.

Future thought: if you bought your boots from said local shop you would most likely get a boot-fit guarantee and in addition they would mold them for free. This is partly how they want to keep your business- you pay regular price, but you get a lot of important services done for free or on the cheap.

If they want $80 to mould liners, that's an absolute rip-off. I'd go for the old sock-full-o-microwaved-rice trick (as recommended by Intuition). It's not going to be quite as good a mould as a heat stack, and nowhere near as good as an oven, but it'll definitely take the edge off the break-in period and it's a lot harder to mess up than trying to mould them in your oven at home.

If a shop really took their time, it will take at most 30-40 minutes so there's now way they will charge you the full $80. As they say, their rate is $80 an hour and they can break that up fairly easily.

I had a heat gun at my house and used some pvc pipe and held the heat gun above that (essentially a heat stack) and followed the steps to mold your boots as given by ft and it worked like a charm and it cost me 0$

I heard a full tilt rep saying you can heat them in your oven at home. But if you do it at home make sure you pad out your toes otherwise they will suffocate

People have mentioned doing them at home, and plenty of folks have had good luck with that. As mentioned, pad the toes if you do it. The foam will 'poof' up when you heat it. Without a toe cap your toes might get a little tight in the initial molding.

Another place to watch out when molding them with your oven, is take care not to over cook them, this can shorten the life of your liners, reduce the potential for remolding the liners, and hinder the liner's effectiveness in molding to your foot.

So, if you are a pretty capable person, go ahead with it.

But it takes about 20 minutes in a shop, should not cost any more than $25, and if the shop fucks it all up, its on them, not you. Also allows the guys at the shop to check your fit and ensure you are in the right one.
