Start getting your footage together, or planning out the best line of your life - because we're dropping this hammer on all of you throughout the season.

$1k per month and $20k first prize for the best line. I'm one of the judges so it should be fun.

Contest opens on the 1st of December, and we'll be dropping more information as things go.

Since you're judging, are people affiliated with NS still allowed to enter or not?

in other words: Am I allowed to enter this thing even though I technically 'work' for NS?

Cash prize being equal or over what a pro skier makes in a year... Can't see this going to any unknown, but I am hopeful.

Is TGR doing this too or are pow edits legit as well?

One hell of a contest. Do these rules make urban and gnarly BC lines in eligible though:

– The Submission must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations of the country where Submission was created; and

– The Submission must not contain unsportsmanlike conduct, extraordinarily dangerous acts, reckless acts, or evidence inexperience in _____ in extreme ____ conditions.

Ha... There will be some insane clips coming out with 20000 on the line. It will also interesting because the clips have to be completely unedited, just a single raw MP4 shot. No matter how amazing of a line it is, you'll only be able to submit the shot from one continuous angle.

could someone win from stept? but instead of a bc line they could do a huge line of cocaine or heroin and it would be super sick cuz stept are doing it ?

or would go pro or newschoolers maybe not want to endorse that sort of behaviour ?

Sorry if I'm autistic, but what I inferred from the info is there are the monthly prizes of 1k then the big 20k at the end, and you are eligible to win the 1k from the month you enter within that month. Then is the very best chosen from all submissions before for the grand prize of are new submissions judged? Could one person possibly receive 21k? Thanks

Define pro. I'd think the rules would make it so any athlete sponsored by GoPro wouldn't be allowed to enter maybe? Saying 'closed to pros' though is too vague. What constitutes a pro? Anyone with a sponsor of any kind? Know what I mean?

Also the contest is open to snowboarders to, so whatever the winning line is will be insane because the field of people who can enter this thing is massive.

Well technically a pro is someone who gets paid to ski. Skiing is their profession.

Judging Criteria:
Cinematography + Composition — 25%
Perspective and Degree of Shooting Difficulty — 25%
Performance + Style — 25%
Overall Beauty + Lighting — 25%

I feel like the first and last categories don't even apply to a raw GoPro clip

Its open to anyone, with a massive cash prize like that for sure we're going to see some crazy entries.

However, there is also $1k per month on the line, which is up for grabs by anyone.

I'm all for creativity too, so the judging panel is looking for a lot more than just the single most burly line. This thing is anyone's game.

I mean shit, look at what Sander did last year with his POV shit. That came almost out of nowhere.

Nope, the only limit is it can only be one, continuous GoPro shot. So there could be multiple skiers in a train or whatever, but its only one shot. Could be cool to have a train perspective...

Not really... you could put together some seriously crazy street stuff or some ultra creative and cool rip the trees/park/trails, etc.

Sure this is west coast, but you could do something nuts at an east coast resort very similar. I bet the GoPro footage would be rad as fuck:

That brothers Brower episode is so sick. There is also this video making the rounds on Facebook of some snowboarder in the UK riding a line that goes from the streets, through a snowdome, and back out onto the streets. It would be a good setup for this.

Totally. You're right though that this type of a run could be absolutely epic on a GoPro. Think also like Logan Imlach's urban line and JP's through the small BC town.

Pull that off and it could be sicker than all hell.

Ask yourself why they would limit the amount of media they can take in from this from all angles? This is a $20k investment in other peoples' production value. If you'll submit it, they will take it and I totally get that. Why wouldn't they? That's like turning away free shit you were trying to buy anyways.


I just don't get why they don't tier the payout a little though. You can't have a win-win situation with just one win, man... That's like triple stamping a double stamp. You just can't.

this is going to be awesome.
it's a continous go pro clip, but does that mean any camera accessories can be used (ie drones, 20k steadicams, effing helicopters?) cos if so, well, the ones that own a drone are going to have a huge advantage, especially if its a pretty long line.

I could see skifi winning this.
